Stellantis' new efficient small electric cars will arrive in 2026
The STLA Small platform should give way to the first models between late 2025 and 2026.
Many compact electric models are coming in the next few years. This is a fundamental step for many manufacturers to bring more and more people closer to zero-emission mobility, with cars designed primarily for urban use at affordable prices.
Renault, Hyundai, and Volkswagen - among others - have already started to make such a move and soon Stellantis will do it, too. As confirmed by CEO Carlos Tavares in an interview with Autocar, the first models based on the STLA Small platform will see the light of day in 2026.
First new models
According to Tavares, the platform itself will be unveiled between the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026, and will form the basis of the Group's next generation of small cars ranging from A-segment to C-segment, with hybrid or electric power.
This architecture will accommodate batteries with capacities between 37 kWh and 82 kWh and electric motors above 94 bhp, and will effectively replace the CMP and e-CMP platforms used in cars such as the Peugeot 208 and 2008 and the Opel Corsa and Mokka.
It has not yet been confirmed which will be the first model to run on this new platform, but some speculation can still be made. Placed between the Smart Car (with models such as the Citroen C3 and Fiat Grande Panda) and the STLA Medium (cars like the Peugeot 3008), the STLA Small could be used for the next-generation Fiat 500 or other A-segment models.
At the same time, we are thinking of a successor to the 208 and Corsa (and their crossover versions, i.e. the 2008 and Mokka), a new DS compact model, and a possible future evolution of the Lancia Ypsilon. If we had to bet anything, however, we would perhaps bet more on Peugeot and Opel, with the current models being on the list as early as 2019.
