The first new Jaguar in years doesn't have a rear window

The first concept of Jaguar's new era is still to be unveiled. The Design Vision Concept will debut on 2 December at Miami Art Week and promises a style that breaks with the British company's recent models.

A philosophy in line with the brand's new brand identity, well represented by the new logo that abandons the iconic image of the leaping jaguar. But what will this prototype look like? A teaser posted on Jaguar's Instagram page gives us a first glimpse.

No rear window

The teaser image shows a portion of the car's rear, in which the absence of a rear window is clearly visible. In place of the glass, in fact, there should be a camera connected directly to the rear-view mirror, a bit like on the Polestar 4. 

 

Also noticeable in the photo is the concept's wide track, with a very muscular wheel arch that gives the idea of a coupe with imposing dimensions. Conventional rear lights are not visible, although they could be hidden by the conspicuous slats running across the car's tail.

The first chapter of the new era

Accompanying the image is the text "copy nothing", reiterating JLR creative chief Gerry McGovern's mantra, itself derived from that of Jaguar founder William Lyons.

"We are creating Jaguars for the future, restoring its status as a brand that enriches the lives of our customers and the Jaguar community," McGovern, commenting on the rebrand, said. JLR CEO Adrian Mardell described Jaguar's rebirth as "a complete reset", describing the new strategy as "something spectacular".

We will have to wait a few more days to find out what this new-age Jaguar will look like, although the first spy photos hint that it will be a four-door electric GT. According to rumours, it will have a power output of over 575 bhp and a range of 435 miles, as well as a base price of £100,000.
