The latest generation of the Volkswagen California camper van, freshly launched and now available for orders in the United Kingdom, is loaded with upgrades, clever design tweaks, and a dash of luxury that might just tempt you to trade in your flat for a life on the road. Keen to pick one up? Well, it’ll cost you — the base model starts at £63,376.

And if that price tag made you spill your tea, brace yourself, because this is the price of the base California, and there are three fancified trims in total: the Beach Camper, the Coast, and the top-tier Ocean. Fancy a bit of eco-conscious motoring? Options include a range of powertrains, from classic diesel to plug-in hybrid, so you can explore the wild with a (slightly) lighter carbon footprint.

To celebrate the opening of order books, VW is also offering a sweet financing deal on the California Ocean 2.0 TDI 150 PS. From now until 6 January, 2025, you can snag one for as low as £549 per month on a Solutions PCP plan or £719 per month with a Hire Purchase agreement. Both options come with a tasty £2,000 deposit contribution from Volkswagen, which should make the decision a bit easier for those with dreams of endless road trips and scenic overnighters.
