Iveco Daily Switch 4x4: Basic but efficient off-road camper van
It is a concept that combines professional weekday use with weekend enjoyment, all in one vehicle.
As you well know, we are passionate about recreational vehicles and within them, those that provide ingenious solutions or that go off the beaten path set by the big manufacturers in the sector. Innovative ideas, in short, that help us to enjoy these types of models more.
During the last Düsseldorf caravan show, held at the beginning of September in the German city, one of the vehicles that most attracted the attention of the attendees was the Iveco Daily Switch 4x4.
An eye-catching concept, although not an absolute first, based on maximum interior modularity. In this way, we can consider the Iveco van as a blank canvas, on which future owners can 'design' their dream camper van.

But there is more thanks to its open-plan interior and the system of rails located on the floor, each customer can add or remove modules as they wish, using the van for professional use during the week, for example, and enjoy it as a camper van on weekends or holidays.
Aesthetically, the Iveco Daily Switch 4x4 is just another camper van. It has a folding roof that transforms into a bedroom that can be accessed from the inside thanks to a folding ladder, but on the outside it has few eye-catching elements, to be honest.
However, we are talking about a 4x4 camper, as its specific off-road tyres, raised suspension and oversized wheel arches protected by plastic material make clear. And from there, Iveco has teamed up with recreational vehicle component specialist Hünerkopf, with a long history of custom work.
The starting point is something simple but basic: rails installed in the floor, walls and ceiling. On that basis, Hünerkopf equips the camping van with wall and floor insulation, as well as various highlights such as two sliding side windows, swivel cab seats, diesel heating and a Micro electrical package with 130 Ah AGM battery, 20A charger, 650W inverter, 12/230 V/USB sockets and interior lighting.
Hünerkopf and Iveco have also thought of adding a removable partition, which keeps the driver and passengers isolated and protected from any tools or objects stored in the load area.
In terms of off-road capabilities, unlike competing AWD systems, the Daily offers all-wheel drive with three locking differentials and a reduction gearbox. It is mounted on a robust chassis frame and fitted with a set of 265/70 R19 off-road tyres. Power comes from Iveco's 173 PS 3-litre turbodiesel engine.
The Iveco Daily Switch 4x2 has a starting price of €76,990 (approx. £64,000), while the Switch 4x4 pictured here, with a lift-up sleeper roof, starts at €138,111 (£115,000). Camping and work modules are priced individually, so it's best to contact your local dealer for more information.
