In a splendid display of history, artistry, and mechanical prowess, the one-of-a-kind 911 Classic Club Coupe made its inaugural journey on the open road, helmed by none other than comedian and renowned collector, Jerry Seinfeld. Based on the iconic 996 911 Carrera model and revamped into a bespoke masterpiece, the car has just been auctioned for an impressive $1.2 million (approx. £940,600) as part of Porsche's 75th-anniversary auction held by Broad Arrow Auctions at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta.

Seinfeld took possession of his new treasure during the annual Porsche Parade in Palm Springs, California, and drove it home from there, marking an exciting chapter for this singular creation. The 911 Classic Club Coupe, born from a 911 Carrera of the 996 generation, is the product of a Sonderwunsch or "special wishes" project by Porsche Classic, in collaboration with the Porsche Club of America (PCA). It's a pure one-off, as indicated by the “No. 001/001” badge adorning the dashboard, hinting at its unparalleled exclusivity.

The aesthetic features of the vehicle pay homage to Porsche's rich lineage, with a ducktail spoiler reminiscent of the 1972 911 Carrera RS 2.7, and a double-bubble roof. It proudly sits on 18-inch forged aluminium Fuchs-style, heritage-inspired wheels, and its unique paint job creates a stunning semblance to the Type 997 911 Sport Classic. Yet, the visuals are only half of this mesmerising story.

Underneath its carefully restored exterior lies the heart of a true Porsche. The car’s chassis, brakes, and engine are drawn from the 996.2 911 GT3 – the first of its kind homologated for sale in the US – its naturally aspirated 3.6-litre flat-six generating an impressive 381 bhp.

The car's journey began in a state of neglect in Colombia, Virginia, where it was found by PCA Executive Director Vu Nguyen. Under his guidance, the 1998 911 Carrera donor car was sent to the Porsche Classic workshop near Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, the very place of its original birth. Here, it underwent an intensive restoration process involving complete disassembly and strengthening of the body-in-white using both original and newly developed parts. Now, the 911 Classic Club Coupe now has a new life and an eager owner, ready to bring it onto the road, offering us a glimpse into the intersection of Porsche's storied past and exhilarating future.
