Cadillac XT6
Cadillac's crossover lineup is expanding, in more ways than one. The upcoming XT6, expected to make its debut at the Detroit Auto Show, is the most recent. Slotted between the smaller XT5 and larger Escalade, the XT6 will use a 3.6-liter V6 producing 310 horsepower (231 kilowatts), routed through a nine-speed automatic. All-wheel drive should come standard and even a hot 400-hp (298-kW) model could happen.
Ford Explorer
Ford pulled the sheet off of its 2020 Explorer on January 9th. In just a few days, the all-new SUV will make its debut at the Detroit Auto Show, touting a near rear-wheel-drive platform, a sharp new look, and a pair of engines. The first power unit is a base turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder that’s good for 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The more-powerful unit is a 3.0-liter V6 that produces 365 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come paired to the same 10-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive is an option.
Ford Explorer
The new Ford Explorer will debut tomorrow, January 9th. But the all-new SUV will also show up in person at the Cobo Center next week. The Blue Oval has already unveiled its Explorer-based Police Interceptor, and based on spy shots, the production version shouldn't be all that different. The base Explorer will wield a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6, but the sporty ST model could have a different engine and upwards of 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts).
Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
After hinting at a new Shelby GT500 in L.A., it looks like Ford will finally pull the cover off its latest snake in Detroit. We don't know all the details, but reports suggest the new Shelby should have over 700 horsepower (522 kilowatts) when it debuts – widely believed to come from a supercharged version of the GT350's 5.2-liter flat-plane crank V8 – and should tip the scales at around 4,225 pounds (1,916 kilograms).
Infiniti QX Inspiration Concept
A preview of the brand's electric future, Infiniti will debut its new QX Inspiration concept in Detroit (even though we've technically already seen it online). Sporting Infiniti's all-new design language, the QX Inspiration concept has an illuminated Infiniti badge and lettering up front, and cameras in the place of side mirrors. We don't know how much power it has yet, but we do know that it's fully electric and could spawn a production model.
Lexus RC F Track Edition
The 467-horsepower (348 kilowatts) Lexus RC F is getting a hardcore makeover for Detroit. The RC F Track Edition will make its debut in the Motor City, and outside of a few added agro cues like new wheels, a more defined front splitter, and a massive rear wing, Lexus is keeping performance details under wraps. Maybe it will get more than 471 hp (351kW), putting it on par with the LC.
Subaru WRX STI S209
Spy shots and teasers preview the new Subaru WRX STI S209 ahead of its Detroit debut. The latest image shows the range-topping STI completely uncovered, hidden only by a few shadows. We know that this new Subaru will be quick – reports suggest the S209 could have upwards of 324 horsepower (241 kilowatts) and 319 lb-ft (433 Nm). We'll know all the details when it shows up in Detroit sometime next week.
Volkswagen Passat
Volkswagen hasn't officially confirmed the Passat's debut in Detroit, but after driving the prototype in December, and rumors of a new version "early in 2019," we have reason to believe the sedan will show up at Cobo. Though new, the Passat rides on the same platform as the current model and wields the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. But its styling, at least, should be a major departure from the current model.
Toyota Supra
We've seen the spy photos, uncovered a handful blurry leaked images, and even driven the damn thing (as a prototype, at least), but after a decade of teasing, the Toyota Supra will finally make its debut at the Detroit Auto Show. And we couldn't be more excited.
We know the new Supra will have two engines: A base 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder from BMW, and a larger, more-powerful inline-six also from BMW. Rumors point to a price tag of around $60,000 when it goes on sale sometime later in the year, but it's still unclear whether that's for the four- or six-cylinder model. We'll know more when it shows up in Detroit.
