Man Goes To Take 5. Then His Car Won’t Start. Then The Worker Pushes It Out Of The Shop... Because It’s In The Way
'This happened to us at Jiffy Lube.'
A Texas man goes to his local Take 5 to get an oil change. He thinks everything is fine until the worker tells him his car won’t start.
TikTok creator @tycoconnections posted a video from outside of the location in Houston. The man behind the account explains what happened and why he is recording.
“So we come here for an oil change,” he says. “They do the oil change, then they tell me to start the car. The car did not want to start. They tried to jump it, but after they jumped it, it still wouldn’t start.”
That is unfortunate, but it’s also not why the TikToker is so upset. “So the guy said we’re holding up the line, so they’re going to have to push our car into the parking lot [so we can] figure it out on our own,” he says. “So here we are.”
Is This A Take 5 Customer Service Fail?
In the caption, @tycoconnections says that the experience happened in the Houston suburb of Atascocita. He further explains that he’s had no previous issue with the car, and he gets it maintained regularly.
“There was zero indication of a problem before we pulled in to get an oil change,” the caption reads. “We are not saying this issue is because of Take 5. We are saying the customer service needs to be fixed.”
When it comes to customer service, Take 5 directs customers with questions or comments to contact the company directly at 980-365-5166 or the location in question. It promises to return correspondence within three business days.
'Take 5 And Valvoline Don't Have Actual Mechanics'
In the comments section of the video, viewers questioned whether @tycoconnections could be asking too much out of a quick oil change establishment. In general, individuals who work at these chains are not the most highly trained mechanics.
“People come with car problems and think an oil change will fix it, smh,” wrote one person.
A second person said, “No one in that building is ASE-certified. And if your car wouldn’t start after the oil change and a jump start, your car had issues before it rolled in.”
@tycoconnections disagreed. “No issues before we went in,” he wrote.
Why Would A Car Fail To Start After An Oil Change?
It’s unclear as to why the vehicle wouldn’t start after the service. If we take the TikToker at his word and there was no previous issue with the car, there are a few things that could’ve caused this to happen.
According to ER Auto Care, engine failure after an oil change can be caused by technicians using the wrong oil, filling the oil to the wrong level, or improperly fitting the oil filter. And, of course, it is always possible that there was an issue with the engine beforehand.
If something like this happens, experts recommend making sure the correct oil and filter were used and double-checking that the vehicle’s fuel pump is working properly, the fuel filter isn’t clogged, and there aren’t any problems with the starter.
Motor1 contacted the TikToker via TikTok comment and direct message for comment. We also contacted Take 5's parent company Driven Brands via email and the Atascocita Take 5 location via phone call for comment. We will update this story upon receiving a response.
