Woman Goes To Walmart For An Oil Change. Then She Overhears The Manager: ‘I Have Been Here An Hour And 30 Minutes'
"It’s all Walmarts."
A woman is warning drivers to avoid a local Walmart Auto Care Center after claiming employees spent more time gossiping than working on her vehicle.
Mrs. Chance (@firstladyclark45) shared the experience in a recent TikTok video, recounting what she described as an unprofessional oil-change visit.
“So never, ever, ever come to Walmart on 4th Street for an oil change,” Chance says in the clip.
According to Chance, technicians at the location were openly speaking negatively about what she described as the only Black female employee working there. She also said the mechanics had made little progress on her vehicle. “I have been here an hour and 30 minutes, and they haven’t even moved my car.”
Chance suggested the employees were spending more time talking than servicing customers, though she did not specify whether the vehicle was eventually serviced or how the situation was resolved.
Chance characterized the workers as “unprofessional” and used the video to caution other drivers about visiting the location for routine maintenance.
As of this writing, the clip has generated more than 6,500 views.
Are Walmart Oil Changes Worth It?
Walmart’s Auto Care Centers have become a popular option for drivers looking to save a few bucks on routine maintenance. Oil changes there are often cheaper than what many dealerships charge, which is part of the reason so many customers are willing to give them a shot.
But like any large chain with thousands of locations, experiences can vary widely from one store to the next.
One of the biggest complaints drivers raise concerns about is wait times and service quality. Some customers report quick, uneventful visits, while others describe long delays or mistakes during routine maintenance.
Of course, that doesn’t mean Walmart is more prone to errors than every other provider. Incorrect oil changes can happen at dealerships, independent repair shops, and quick-lube chains alike.
And when an oil change does go wrong, the consequences can be expensive.
Something as simple as a loose drain plug, a poorly installed oil filter, or the wrong type of oil can lead to leaks or engine damage if a driver doesn’t catch the problem fast enough. That’s, in part, why drivers are advised to check for leaks, warning lights, or unusual engine noises after any oil change, regardless of where the work was performed.
Whether Walmart is worth it often comes down to what you prioritize as a driver—whether you’re looking to save money or prefer to stick with a shop you already know and trust.
Ultimately, an oil change is one of the most routine services a car can get. The goal is simply making sure it is done correctly, whether that’s at Walmart, a dealership, or the local shop down the street.
Viewers Share Their Own Walmart Stories
Commenters who watched Mrs. Chance’s video said her experience sounded familiar, and many shared their own complaints about Walmart Auto Care Centers.
“Walmart automotive will mess your vehicle up, speaking from experience, it’s best to go to the dealership,” one man wrote.
“They forgot to put my oil cap back on years ago! Terrible service!” another commenter recalled.
“Never go to Walmart for anything car-related,” a third viewer advised.
“Not just Walmart on 4th Street, it’s all Walmarts,” another person argued.
Others focused specifically on the location Chance visited and said they had sworn it off themselves.
“I avoid that Walmart like the plague. Go to Big 5 down past All Star on Marshall Ave. They’ll take good care of you. And it’s $25 if you bring your own oil filter,” one woman suggested.
“I do not go to that store anymore,” another shared.
“I stood there for 30 minutes waiting for someone just to look at me,” a third viewer said of the same location. “Their customer service is awful.”
A few commenters used the opportunity to recommend alternatives.
“I take my car to Midas on Loop 281,” one person wrote.
“Valvoline by Pinetree Rd and The Loop,” another recommended.
