Honda Passport Buyers Can't Get Enough Of One Particular Trim
The TrailSport model accounted for over 80 percent of Passport sales last month.
The Breakdown:
- Over 80 percent of Passport sales last month were for the TrailSport trim.
- Passport sales are up 20.1 percent through the first three months of the year.
- Honda sales are down 5.2 percent overall for the first quarter of 2026.
The Honda Passport TrailSport isn’t new. It debuted for 2022, but it didn’t truly become a rugged offering until Honda gave it a thorough refresh for 2026. The SUV received an assortment of genuine off-road goodies, which has been a huge success, as sales show. A majority of Passport buyers last month picked the rugged TrailSport trim.
Out of the nearly 5,000 Passports sold last month, over 80 percent were for the TrailSport trim, the mid-range offering. The Passport TrailSport features 31-inch tires, steel skid plates, heavy-duty tow hooks, and 8.3 inches of ground clearance.
Despite the TrailSport’s strong month, sales for the Passport were down 10.4 percent in March but up 20.1percent for the first three months of 2026. Honda has sold 14,045 Passports so far this year.

Honda's Sales Decline
The CR-V remains Honda’s best-selling model by a wide margin, with nearly 100,000 sold through the first three months of 2026. It’s far ahead of the Civic at 57,6000 units sold, but sales for both models are down for the year—3.8 and 2.3 percent, respectively.
Sales for the Accord were booming through March, up 21.9 percent to 37,317 units. The ancient Ridgeline was Honda’s only other model that saw its sales increase in 2026, up 0.3 percent. The rest of the lineup saw their sales decrease.
The Prologue, Honda’s EV that isn't dead yet, suffered the worst, with sales falling 65.3 percent. HR-V sales fell 24.2 percent, and Odyssey sales fell 16.4 percent. Honda sales are down 5.1 percent overall for the first quarter, with 304,478 cars sold.

Motor1’s Take: Buyers might love the new Passport TrailSport, and sales might be up 20 percent, but it is not enough to counter the overall downturn. Honda’s mixed sales results for the quarter obscure a tough March, with the brand's sales down 12.9 percent last month.
