The Corvette ZR1 Won't Stop Breaking Lap Records: Video
The Magician of Mosport, Ron Fellows, set a new lap record in the 2026 Corvette ZR1.
Lap records continue to fall for the mighty Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Earlier in 2025, Chevy put its supercar to work across five iconic circuits. Now, the ZR1 can add another top time to its growing list of accomplishments.
A 2026 Corvette ZR1 driven by Canadian hero Ron Fellows just blitzed the Mosport production car record with a time of 1:18.2. That bests the old time of 1:22.12, which was set by a 2023 Z06—also driven by Fellows.
Ron is no stranger to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park or Corvettes. Fellows is a co-owner of the circuit, and he’s successfully raced Vettes for decades. He’s without question the right man for this particular task.
When you put a Le Mans and Daytona winning driver behind the wheel of a car with 1,064 horsepower, awesome stuff is bound to happen. The added downforce from the bonkers ZTK package certainly helps, too.
"When you’ve got more downforce, you can be that much more aggressive with corner entry," Fellows says. "Into Turn 8, for example, I was braking about the same place as I was with the Z06, but going over 20 miles per hour faster."
The ZR1 gets its mojo courtesy of the twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 mounted toward the rear of the vehicle. Chevy claims the car will rip from 0-60 mph in just 2.3 seconds. And that optional downforce package produces up to 1,200 pounds of downward shove.
This record time at Mosport joins fast laps achievements at Watkins Glen, Road America, Road Atlanta, and two layouts at Virginia International Raceway. The big brother ZR1X also has a record lap run at the legendary Nurburgring in Germany.
It’s interesting to note that the car used for the lap record appears to be part of the new Stars & Steel collection. So while the car is setting new record times at a Canadian track with a Canadian legend behind the wheel, Chevy wants you to know where the car comes from. Or this is just a great ad for the upcoming limited-run version of the ZR1 offered in 2026.
Either way, it’s a heck of a run on a great race track. Ron Fellows proves he’s still the Magician of Mosport, and the ZR1 sits as a true North American supercar.
