Florida Woman Gets Oil Change at Jiffy Lube In 103-Degree Heat. Then They Find a Creative Workaround So She Can Wait In Her Car
"Yeah how do you think the people doing ur oil change feel lmao."
A woman reveals how Jiffy Lube found a creative way to keep her cool during an oil change in 103-degree garage heat.
In a TikTok that’s generated over 58,700 views as of this writing, Amanda (@amandasgotit) reveals how the Jiffy Lube staff used an AC exhaust vent hose to cool her car while she waited inside.
“It’s funny but it’s sweet. Shoutout to Jiffy Lube for the AC and quick oil change (they also did not try to upsell me and tell me my car was going to explode),” she captions the video.
While getting her oil change, Amanda stayed inside the car during the service. This move left many commenters confused about why she didn’t just wait inside the lobby.
“You couldn’t just go inside the tiny lobby they have lol,” one TikTok commenter asked.
“They don’t have one there :( You stay in your car for every service,” Amanda replied.
Since the Jiffy Lube location didn’t have a lobby, Amanda remained in her vehicle during the oil change. Car engines remain off during oil changes, Quora experts share. This allows the oil to settle, making it easier to drain and ensuring safety.
Commenters chimed in with discontent about Amanda’s situation.
“The kid working on your insanely hot car doesn’t have any AC lol,” one TikTok commenter shared.
“Yeah, how do you think the people doing your oil change feel lmao,” another added.
“Or just wait till it's not 100 to get an oil change,” a third suggested.
What to Expect During a Jiffy Lube Oil Change
According to Jiffy Lube, an oil change at the chain could take 15 minutes or less. Service will include changing the oil, inspecting key components, cleaning, and checking and filling fluids.
When arriving at Jiffy Lube, drivers will just pull up either in front of an open bay or behind the last car in line, a Reddit user shares. The technician will direct the drivers into the bay and begin the oil change process. Jiffy Lube will replace old oil with five quarts of new motor oil and change the filter.
In addition to changing the oil, Jiffy Lube will review and inspect other parts of your car. Inspection will include checking antifreeze/coolant levels, belts, wiper blades, exterior lights, the chassis, brake fluid level, and engine air filtration. These inspections may be when technicians start with upsell tactics.
“Jiffy Lube technicians have been known to upsell customers with services and parts that don’t necessarily need to be replaced, like air filters, batteries and belts – all of which can cost upwards of hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars,” per Your Mechanic.
Jiffy Lube will also check and replace the following: tire pressure, transmission fluid, windshield washer fluid, power steering fluid, battery water, and differential/transfer case fluid. To top it off, a technician will clean off the external windshield.
When service is completed, the technician will provide a sticker with the engine mileage indicating the next time you need an oil change.
When Should You Get An Oil Change?
According to Progressive, being proactive with oil changes will increase engine performance, improve gas mileage, and extend the engine's longevity. This is why it is crucial to know when to change your oil.
AAA recommends getting an oil change every 5,000-7,500 miles for most vehicles. However, this number can vary depending on what car you drive and what the manufacturer's manual suggests.
There is a “every 3,000 miles or every three months” rule for oil changes, but this is now outdated, Consumer Reports shares. Oil and engines have come a long way in development, and getting an oil change every 3,000 miles is tossing away money and overdoing it.
Nowadays, there are synthetic oils that last up to 10,000 miles, Valvoline reports. As mentioned, it’s best to follow what the owner's manual says your oil change intervals should be.
Having clean oil will keep the engine running smoothly, so it’s essential not to skip out on any oil change intervals.
Motor1 has contacted Amanda via TikTok direct message and Jiffy Lube via phone. The story will be updated if either party replies.
Update Sept. 24, 2025: In a statement to Motor1, Jiffy Lube said, "Florida temperatures can be brutal during the summer months. As we strive to provide customers with a great experience, we have installed an innovative A/C system to help keep drivers cool while waiting in their vehicle during service. While we get customers In & Out in a Jiffy, who doesn’t love a blast of cool on a hot summer day.”
