Goodwood Revival gears up for a Splittie spectacle this year

The Goodwood Revival is rolling out a kaleidoscope of nostalgia this year with a parade that promises to steal the show – and your heart. For 2025, the iconic Volkswagen Type 2 Split Screen, affectionately dubbed the Splittie, will take centre stage, kicking off each day of the event in style.

From ambulances to ice cream vans, and beach buggies to campers, this isn’t your typical convoy. Goodwood is set to assemble the most diverse fleet of VW Type 2s ever seen on its historic track. These beloved vans, manufactured between 1950 and 1967, are a global symbol of freedom, adventure, and road trip dreams – and they’ll be rolling in every colour of the rainbow for Revival visitors to admire.

The Split Screen, originally Volkswagen’s second mass-produced vehicle, began life as a practical workhorse. But the 1960s transformed the boxy van into an icon of counterculture, holiday escapes, and free-spirited living. From the Kombi to the Camper, these vans became an enduring emblem of the open road, inspiring generations to pack up and hit the highways.

This year’s parade isn’t just about looks, though. Goodwood is revving up its green credentials, with all 13 races across the weekend running exclusively on sustainable fuel. Meanwhile, the Splitties will make a daily lap of honour, proving that classic design and eco-consciousness can coexist.

“The Goodwood Revival has a long history of celebrating significant vehicles – everything from the Mini and Fiat 500, to the Ferrari 250 GTO and Jaguar D-type. This year it is the turn of the Split Screen Volkswagen Type 2, which celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2025. The Type 2 is more than just an automotive icon; it is a cultural phenomenon, equally at home in campervan form on a hippie encampment or family holiday camp, as a delivery van, or even as a race car transporter. We will be celebrating this variety by bringing together a wonderfully varied collection of VW Type 2s, which will open the track each morning in colourful fashion, and pop up across the Revival site,” the Duke of Richmond CBE DL, founder of the Goodwood Revival, commented.

But wait, there’s more for VW enthusiasts. The Type 2s will also claim the prime real estate in the Tax Exempt Classic Car Parking area, turning it into a mecca for camper fanatics. Whether you own a lovingly restored Samba or just want to snap a selfie with one, this is your chance to soak in the vintage vibes.
