Polestar 7 announced as new compact SUV

It will be produced in Europe

2023 Polestar 3

The story of Polestar as we know it today began in 2017 with the presentation of the Polestar 1, a sports coupe powered by a 600 PS plug-in powertrain. A limited edition model called to kick off a new brand - born from Volvo and belonging to the Geely Group - focused on the production of 100% electric cars.

Over the years, new models have been introduced, such as the Polestar 2, Polestar 3, Polestar 4 and Polestar 5, which will go on sale in the second half of 2025. An increasingly wide range, concentrated at the top end, with the smallest model (the Polestar 2) being over 4.6 metres long. The Polestar 7, a new model announced by the manufacturer today, will take the lead in the next few years.

Compact, but how compact?

"Polestar 7 will be a premium compact SUV", reads the press release, with no further details on the brand's new entry. Dimensions, styling and more remain a mystery, except the fact that the term 'compact' puts the next Polestar in the 4.2 to 4.5 metre SUV segment.

The close relationship between Polestar and Volvo immediately brings to mind the EX30, a 4.23-metre-long, 100% electric compact SUV based on the Geely Group's SEA platform, which is available in various configurations and is also used - among others - by the smart #1 and #3. The design will be sporty, probably with a coupe-like rear end. Production will take place in Europe, so as to avoid duties on electric cars produced in China.

What do you think?

Just such an architecture should be the basis for all future Polestar models, ready to move from a multi-platform approach to a single architecture, thus reducing development costs.

Healthy optimism

Beyond the Polester 7 - arriving in late 2026 and early 2027 - Polestar looks forward to 2025 as the best year in its short history, both thanks to an unprecedented product offensive and CO2 credits. By producing only electric cars, Polestar can help other manufacturers lower their emissions by creating a pool of manufacturers and appearing as a single entity in the eyes of the European Commission. It is a move that, according to Polestar 's own estimates, could result in millions of euros for Polestar, which together with Mercedes, Volvo Cars and smart has already created its own pool.
