Nothing colourful: Alpine Art Car 2024 is monochrome
Is that art?
Art cars - the first thing that springs to mind are the usually screamingly colourful works of art by BMNW, which have regularly graced the art and car scene for decades. But other manufacturers have also discovered the PR impact of such synergies. Alpine has now unveiled its fourth Art Car - all in black and white. And as always, art is in the eye of the beholder.
Alpine presented a new art car for the year 2024 in Paris, which shows the A110 S in a monochromatic design. The vehicle was created in collaboration with photographer Mathieu Cesar and follows the company's internal tradition of artistically interpreting a sports car every year.

The concept is based on a targeted design strategy as the bodywork is characterised by a gradual transition from black to white, with the front and rear sections in glossy black and transitional areas in nuanced shades of white. This colour scheme is intended to precisely highlight the structural lines of the vehicle and transform the sports car into a mobile art object.
The technical specifications remain unchanged. The A110 S has 300 PS, accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds and has a power-to-weight ratio of 3.7 kg/PS. The monochromatic design is intended to visually emphasise these technical characteristics and create a direct link between aesthetics and performance.
The design concept is consistently continued in the interior. A contrast between the white upper and black lower areas is intended to define the perception of space, says the artist. Elements designed using 3D printing, such as backrests and door panels, serve to give the interior a precise structure and visual dynamism. Aluminium elements such as the decor, name badge and door sills complete the minimalist, elegant interior.
Mathieu Cesar, known for his black and white portraits, brought his photographic expertise to the project. His work is characterised by a skilful use of light, shadow and contrast. During the collaboration, he documented the vehicle in timeless photographs and a film that presents the car in a seemingly frozen state, with light and shadow dancing across the bodywork.
For Alpine, this project represents a systematic exploration of the intersection between automotive design and contemporary art. Since 2021, the company has realised an Art Car every year in collaboration with different artists: 2021 with Felipe Pantone, 2022 with The Obvious Collective and 2023 with Arne Quinze.
