The Mercedes GLA-Class crossover got a significant redesign for 2021. First introduced last December, the automaker has now released pricing information for the GLA 250 and the GLA 250 4Matic. When the crossover goes on sale at US dealerships this summer, the 2021 GLA 250 will start at $37,280. Upgrading to the 4Matic bumps the starting price up to $39,280 – a $2,000 premium. Both prices include the $1,050 destination charge.
The GLA grows for 2021, improving interior space and comfort. The added girth takes the GLA from an awkward, high-riding hatchback to a full-on crossover. The reworked exterior wraps around an all-new interior with the latest Mercedes technologies, including its MBUX infotainment system. Additional standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display.

Under the hood of the US-spec GLA is the company’s turbocharged 2.0-liter making 221 horsepower (164 kilowatts) and 258 pound-feet (350 Newton-meters) of torque. That’s 13 hp more than the GLA currently on sale. Power routes to the front wheels through an eight-speed, dual-clutch gearbox. Sprints to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) take 8.6 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph (209 kph). All-wheel drive is available in the GLA 250 4Matic.

The GLA 250 and GLA 250 4Matic aren’t the only new GLA models. Earlier this year, Mercedes introduced the 2021 AMG GLA 45 that packs the company’s potent M139 2.0-liter turbo engine that makes 382 hp (285 kW). A run to 60 takes 4.3 seconds in the sportier version. Mercedes also trotted out the GLA 250e, a plug-in hybrid version, though we’re not sure if it’ll reach America.
The 2021 GLA does see a price increase over the outgoing model, which starts at $35,245. However, the higher price does coincide with a larger vehicle. The GLA will compete against the Audi Q3 and BMW X1, which start at $35,695 and $36,195 for 2020, respectively, including destination charges.
