Audi's assault on world domination in endurance racing continued at the weekend with victory at the Nurburgring 24 hours race. It is the first time the company has taken victory at the famous event which has entered is 40th year of competition.

Audi's assault on world domination in endurance racing continued at the weekend with victory at the Nurburgring 24 hours race. It is the first time the company has taken victory at the famous event which has entered is 40th year of competition.

An Audi R8 LMS Ultra race car that was entered by Audi Sport Team Phoenix won the race after completing 155 laps and was piloted by German drivers Marc Basseng, Christopher Haase, Frank Stippler and Markus Winkelhockand. Another 3 minutes 35 seconds later a second Audi R8 LMS Ultra from Team Mamerow Racing crossed the line to complete an Audi 1-2 for the race.

Mercedes saw their best entrant arrive at the chequered flag 11 minutes 31 seconds behind the victor while BMW's top position was fourth and a lap behind.

Another three examples of the R8 LMS Ultra were entered into the race, but due to crash repairs they ended 5th, 17th and 32nd.
