2017 Maserati Levante | Why Buy?
The Italian brand’s first crossover is a solid first step, but it’s not perfect.
– Detroit, Michigan
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Even automakers that made their name building sports cars and luxury machines have now begun selling SUVs en masse. Maserati is the latest to follow that path, and the Levante is its first-ever SUV.
As we’ve come to expect from Maserati coupes, sedans, and convertibles, the Levante impresses with sultry styling, a gorgeously appointed cabin, and a rorty exhaust note. On the other hand, it’s pricey and quite thirsty for premium unleaded. SUV buyers are practical types, and they have lots of other choices in this segment. Does the Levante have the everyday livability of the best European and Japanese luxury crossovers?
To find out, we’re subjecting the Maserati Levante to our rigorous Why Buy? testing regime.
