For the first time in its decade-long history, the BMW M2 will offer an all-wheel-drive option with the launch of the M2 xDrive in 2027. This new model will be available for purchase this summer and will feature BMW’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, delivering 473 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The M2 xDrive will exclusively come with the eight-speed automatic M Steptronic transmission, while the rear-wheel-drive version will continue to offer a manual transmission option.

The introduction of all-wheel drive enhances the M2 xDrive’s performance, making it 0.3 seconds faster to reach 60 miles per hour compared to its rear-wheel-drive counterpart, achieving it in 3.6 seconds. With a one-foot rollout, the time drops to 3.3 seconds, and the car can reach 124 mph in 12.8 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph but can be increased to 177 mph with the M Driver’s Package. The M2 xDrive maintains a rear-wheel bias in normal driving conditions, engaging all-wheel drive only when necessary.

The M2 xDrive is equipped with the Active M Differential, offering M-specific traction control with configurable settings, and includes options like a 2WD mode with Dynamic Stability Control deactivated. It features staggered 19-inch front and 20-inch rear M alloy wheels, with track tires available as an option, and comes standard with M Compound brakes, including six-piston front and single-piston rear calipers. The 2027 BMW M2 xDrive will start at $74,950 in the US, including a $1,350 destination charge, while the rear-wheel-drive 2026 M2 with a six-speed manual starts at $70,350.
