Some people think little of their vehicle's interior. Not this man. Now he's revealing what it really takes to restore a damaged interior.

Mechanic Hogan Randell (@hogan.randell) was bummed out over the cosmetic damage his Mazda sustained to its center shift console.

In a TikTok about his efforts, he says he tried two separate Meguiars products to restore it. And while he extolled them for helping to keep the inside of his ride clean and mitigating the conspicuousness of these blemishes, he was still left looking for a better treatment.

Are Mazda Interiors Easy To Damage?

Randell's Mazda3 has visible marks on a portion of the console beneath the navigation button. As it turns out, the small scratches were ironically caused by his attempts to remove dust from this part of the vehicle.

The damage, Randell says, was made in error. “So I just learned that this piano black trim on these Mazda3s are very fragile. And I just tried to wipe off some dust, and I learned the hard way that you should not do that,” he says.

Then he tried to fix the damage.

“So I’m gonna try and get this out, and then I’m gonna PPF it and never let this happen again,” he says. Next, Randell’s video cuts to footage of him holding up a spray bottle of Meguiar’s Ultimate Interior Detailer.

“Alright, so I just bought this to do my whole interior. But I wanted to clean this before I tried to fix it. And it does really well, it’s really shiny and it doesn’t scratch any of the dust that’s on it,” he says.

Is Meguiars A Quick Car Fix?

According to Randell, the product works well as a cleaner.

“I definitely recommend this for the Mazda interior so far," he says.

Then he tried Meguiars PlastX.

"I’m kind of scared because I’ve never had a new car like this before. So we’re gonna find out," Randell says.

According to him, it didn't work. "It’s coming out but like not really. And I kind of hate it. I don’t even know how I did it. It’s so freaking fragile, please,” he says, adding, "It kind of worked kind of didn’t. So if anybody has any recommendations … who’s run into this, I’d appreciate it and, this cleans really good though,” he says.

Some people who commented on his video blamed piano black interior.

Others said they keep microfiber cloths on hand to avoid scratching delicate interior surfaces in their cars.

How Do You Fix Interior Scratches?

Several commenters suggested that Randell try using Polywatch Plastic/Acrylic glasses repair cleaner. It's primarily used to fix small scratches on the faces of wrist watches and eyeglasses. The brand promises that users can expect “professional results” and that the gel can also be used “for deeper scratches” too.

What do you think?

One person said Polywatch“works super well.” A second agreed, “It will take scratches out.” A Reddit user on r/cars specifically said it works on “piano black trim scratches.”

Motor1 has reached out to Meguiars and Polywatch via email and Randell via TikTok direct message for further comment. We'll update this if either responds.
