Woman Gets Her Windows Tinted. Then She Immediately Makes The Most Common Car-Tinting Mistake: 'Right In Front Of You Is Crazy'
"I wanted them tinted so bad."
A woman got her windows tinted then immediately broke the cardinal rule of window tinting. So she figured out a way to stop herself from making the same mistake twice.
In a TikTok about her blunder, Shelvy Ruffin (@theerookie) reveals what exactly she did and how she prevented it happening again.
After she got her windows tinted, the technician explained that she couldn’t roll them down for a certain amount of time.
“I’m like oh, alright, I got it, I got it. I already had it in my mind that I'm not touching my windows,” she says.
Nevertheless, moments later, she says she rolled the window down to ask him about whether she could wash her car.
At first she was confused as to why he gave her such a disappointed look.
Then he said, “You put your window down.”
“Oh my god. Right in front of you is crazy,” she replied.
The technician was relieved she was still there at least so he could make sure her blunder didn’t mess up the tint job. Ruffin admits that later on, she did the same thing.
“I keep touching it every time I go through a drive thru. Every time I wanna holler at somebody,” she says.
Then she got an idea. To stop herself from doing it again, Ruffin put bandaids over the control knobs. It worked.
“I ended up putting all this [expletive] on here and all these bandaids [expletive] it better not go down. I better not touch that [expletive] thing or I’m gonna slap myself,” she concludes.
As of this writing, the TikTok has generated over 127,000 views.
Why You Can’t Put Your Windows Down After Getting Them Tinted?
Getting your car windows tinted comes with many benefits. Tint protects your car from the sun and provides extra privacy, which some women find particularly reassuring. On top of that, it looks good.
An important thing to note is that you will have to keep your windows up for three to five days, according to Tint and Beyond. That’s how long it takes to ensure the tint film adheres correctly to the glass. Rolling down the windows before the waiting period is over can negatively affect the tint's integrity and placement. It can cause peeling, crinkling, bubbling, adhesive failure, get dirt and debris under the tint, negatively affect the warranty, and lead to increased costs to fix the damage, Premier Window Tinting reports.
Additionally, weather plays a factor in how long you should wait to resume using your windows as usual. The film sets faster in hotter climates, slower in colder weather. You can speed up the tint setting process by parking your car in direct sunlight.
It’s best to wait the entire length of time recommended by your window tint professional. This may require some patience—and for you to remember not to hit that button. If you think this will be an issue, you may want to consider putting tape or band aids on the controls like Ruffin.
Having to get them re-tinted because you rolled the window down can be an expensive mistake; tint ranges from roughly $200 to upwards of $800 or more.
People Sympathize With Her Window Tint Fail
Turns out that many people have struggled to stop themselves from rolling the window down after getting them tinted.
“It’s crazy, cause why that be the time you let the window down the most,” one said.
Another wrote, “I hate it, I love riding with my windows down lol.”
Others revealed that they too rolled their windows down too soon after a tint job.
“Just go home, that’s what I did,” one shared.
“I remember getting tint & rolling my window down at a drive thru. The bandaids are smarttttt,” another added.
Another said their tint company had told them not to roll the windows down for six days. “It’s been eight days; I'm scared,” they added.
Still another wondered why the tint company didn’t put a reminder on the glass.
“That's crazy, usually they put that long sticker on there for you,” they wrote.
