'A Little Something To Help You': Man Buys Used Car On Facebook Marketplace. Then The Seller Does Something Completely Unexpected
"As a car guy..."
After buying a used car on Facebook Marketplace, a man found a mysterious letter in the glove box. It was a note from the previous owner, and the contents have the buyer believing in good again.
TikTok creator Austin O’Dwyer (@murphycharlie175) recently posted a video about the random act of kindness. In the video, he explains that he found a used car on Facebook Marketplace and contacted the owner about purchasing it.
O’Dwyer learned that the seller was a pilot whose mother was no longer able to drive the vehicle. The family wanted the car to go to a good home.

“I went and got an inspection on it,” he says. “I liked it. I told him I would meet him tomorrow and bring the money. So I did that. I got the car. It drives great. I’m sitting in it now. It’s super great. It has 95,000 miles and no problems with it. And he was super generous. He was able to negotiate with me.”
After a couple of days of owning the vehicle, O’Dwyer noticed an envelope in the glove compartment.
O’Dwyer says, “Here’s what the letter says: ‘Austin, I hope you’ll enjoy this car as much as my mom did. Here is a little something to help you buy some gas or towards a new set of tires. I really enjoyed meeting you. God’s blessings in all that you do.’”
What Else Was In The Envelope?
In addition to the message, O’Dwyer says, was $100 cash.
“That is just one of the most generous things ever,” he says. “I already paid him for the car. And then he wrote me a note and gave me $100. It’s just one of those things that inspired me and made me realize that there are still good people out there and makes me want to be a good person as well.”
In the comments section of the video, viewers applauded the seller’s random act of kindness and O’Dwyer’s response to it.
“As a car guy… It probably made him feel really good knowing it was going to someone who was going to respect it and take care of it,” said one viewer. “This is what happens when there is an even energy exchange.”
“This is so rare,” said a second. “Pass it on, be generous, and just be yourself. You sound like a good dude. Text him in a month and see how him and his mom are doing. He’ll like that.”
Someone else said, “He’s most certainly a dad.”
Random acts of kindness on Facebook Marketplace aren’t as uncommon as you might think. A woman posted to Reddit’s r/FacebookMarketplace a couple of months ago after listing an item and lowering the price several times. When she finally made the sale, she realized she accidentally overcharged the buyer. Instead of being upset, the buyer said the initial price was more than fair.
Another person posted to r/randomactsofkindness a year ago after accidentally pricing a computer part too low. Instead of taking advantage of the situation, a kind buyer messaged the person to let them know.
