'That Just Blew My Mind:' Yukon Driver Has Trouble Reaching Gas Pedal. Then She Finds This Little-Known Button
"That just blew my mind."
A stay-at-home mom was stunned to learn that her GMC Yukon comes outfitted with gas and brake pedals that can be adjusted with the press of a button.
TikTok user Kendra (@mamaken143) vented her frustrations about cruising around in her SUV before finally learning about the feature, which she hails as a game-changer. Others remarked that they, too, appreciate the ability to bring their pedals closer or further away from their feet.
Kendra’s video begins with her heaping praise upon the engineers who decided to outfit the Yukon with this attribute. She says it makes driving all the more comfortable.
“Okay I just want to know what genius, created, designed, whatever, this car. So, ever since I got it, I have not been able to get like real comfortable in the driver’s seat. Because, it’s either I’m sitting like this on the steering wheel,” she says, leaning forward whilst demonstrating a granny-style pose.
She continues, “And my foot will touch the gas pedal comfortably. Or, I’m sitting back, comfortable, to the steering wheel. I’m touching the gas pedal or pressing the gas pedal with like the very tip of my toe.”
Kendra says that before learning how to bring the pedals closer to her feet, she was unable to be at ease in her Yukon.
“And so I couldn’t get comfortable with it. Well I read that…there was like an adjustable gas pedal,” she tells viewers.
The Magic Button
Kendra says she was able to locate the pedal-adjusting switch by herself.
“I was just messing around in here like looking at all this stuff you know that it has,” she explains. “Because I’ve looked at everything and I just haven’t really, like, messed with everything to see, exactly what it was. And there is a button for the gas pedal. What?
“That’s crazy. Literally, there’s a button that pushes the gas pedal all the way back. Or up, or however, like, adjust it. And it’s just a button right over here on the side. I’m gonna show it to you because that just blew my mind. What is even going on?”
Then she shows the pedal-moving button in question. It’s on the dash near a cluster of other hard-button toggles, including what looks like a parking assistance chime, lane departure warning alert option, and traction control on/off switch.
“Like I’ve seen this little button but I didn’t know what it was for. And like all of those are like the driving assist things so I just didn’t realize I guess. But there it is. You press it this way and it comes towards you. You press it that way and it goes like down further. So now I can touch the gas pedal how I need to.”
A couple people who responded to Kendra’s video commented that they, too, appreciate this function.
One individual called it “the best invention ever,” before saying it saves them from having to readjust their seat whenever their husband takes the car out for a spin. Another person said that they initially hit the button by accident, which “scared the [expletive] out of” them.
Someone else wrote, “Had that in my Navigator and it made my 5ft self so happy.”
Another suggested that Kendra could’ve just moved her steering wheel up closer. However, she said that she already did this, but still couldn’t find an optimal seating position to drive her Yukon.
Other Cars That Come With Adjustable Pedals
There are several other manufacturers that offer adjustable pedals in their cars, too.
Offerings from Ford and Dodge, like the F-150 and Durango, and the Nissan Titan Sport are outfitted with this option.
Driving Geeks called the feature one that’s “perfect for short people.”
Additionally, there are aftermarket pedal extenders one can install for assistance in braking/accelerating without having to adjust their seat and steering length.
Motor1 has reached out to Kendra via email for further comment. We’ll update this if she responds.
