Xpeng: Free update arrives Tesla-style
Now on the Xpeng there is also a Sentry mode that records what happens around the car. Here are all the details
One of the Chinese brands to watch with great interest in the near future is definitely Xpeng. The company is already present in 30 countries including the UK and by 2025 aims to be in 60 markets.
The range of electric models is quite comprehensive and includes both crossovers and SUVs as well as luxury saloons, with all cars featuring distinctive designs and interesting technical features. But there is also plenty of technology as evidenced by the XOS 5.4 update just released over-the-air for cars sold worldwide.
Safe even when parked
With the update, the XPENG assistant now supports voice commands in multiple languages including English, French, German, Cantonese and Thai. According to the company this new expanded language support enables intuitive interactions with navigation, car controls and infotainment in general.

Another distinctive feature of XOS 5.4 is the 'AI Guard' system which introduces advanced safety tools. Sentry mode for instance monitors and records suspicious activity around the vehicle when it is unoccupied such as unexpected movements or prolonged stops near the car.
Similar to the feature in Teslas, notifications are sent directly to the user's XPENG app, ensuring that the user is always informed of potential risks. In addition, the Driving Recorder function enhances safety during the journey by capturing critical events in real time and storing key footage securely for easy access later.
"Reads" the road better
The Xpeng upgrade also affects ADAS and the operating system. In particular, smart driving features include intelligent recognition of speed limits and road signs such as 'No Trespassing' and motorway exit signs. In addition, infotainment features the split-screen multitasking functionality and more flexibility in customising the layout with the XDock system.
For added convenience the new X-Combo feature allows users to automate recurring in-car tasks such as activating child locks when driving therefore simplifying daily routines.
In addition, the images shown during charging have also been improved with a new animation inspired by the Northern Lights.
Xpeng's plans
At the moment Xpeng only sells electric cars, but the company has already revealed that it is working on an EREV powertrain, i.e. electric with a petrol engine range extender. In practice, the brand's idea is to design a car capable of travelling about 250 miles on electric power alone and about 870 miles in 'hybrid' mode.

Thanks in part to this innovation, the brand is aiming to become the number one Chinese hybrid and electric car brand in the world, at least in the medium-high segment. And the most recent model presented in Europe suggests that intentions are quite serious. Indeed, at the Paris Motor Show 2024, we saw the P7+, a battery-powered luxury saloon that is described by the company as the 'world's first vehicle defined by Artificial Intelligence'.
This means that the P7+ uses driving aids and advanced AI-managed features to make driving itself safer and more engaging, as the car is able to learn driver and passenger preferences.
At the moment, Xpeng sells in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Iceland, Spain, Portugal and the UK.
