Blimey: The new Corvette ZR1 does 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds
The fastest Corvette of all time also has a pretty crisp top speed
The new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is as fast as lightning. Thanks to its 5.5-litre biturbo V8 with 1,064 PS and 1,122 Nm of torque, this shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to anyone. We are talking about the most powerful eight-cylinder engine ever produced by an American car manufacturer. Now there are new measurements that further underpin the dominance of the ZR1.
Just recently, Chevy engineers let their new monster loose on the high-speed oval of ATP Automotive Testing in Papenburg, Germany where a top speed of 233 miles per hour was achieved. This makes the new ZR1 the fastest Corvette ever.
According to Chevrolet, the Corvette ZR1 needs 2.3 seconds to sprint from 0-60 mph. This is also a new record for the model series. As a reminder: the electrified Corvette E-Ray achieves the standard sprint in 2.5 seconds. With its acceleration time, the ZR1 is on a par with hypercars such as the Aston Martin Valkyrie, the Lamborghini Revuelto and the Lotus Evija, all of which also require 2.3 seconds.

Incidentally, the ZR1 storms the quarter mile in 9.6 seconds, reaching 150 mph. This is roughly the same as the Ferrari 296 GTB and the Lambo Revuelto. However, the record for US cars is still held by the Dodge Demon 170, which specialises in drag racing, with a time of 8.91 seconds.
All these undoubtedly impressive figures earned the Corvette ZR1 a number of honours. It is the fastest accelerating Corvette of all time and the fastest car ever produced by General Motors. It is also the only car under one million US dollars to reach 233 mph.
Speaking of which, while we're sure the new uber-Vette will cost less than a million dollars, we don't yet know exactly how much Chevy will ultimately charge. However, it is likely to be significantly more expensive than the E-Ray ($108,595) and the Z06 ($113,795). Let's just hope that the price tag isn't as outlandish as the performance.
