New Suzuki Jimny: We like it Jeep Wrangler style!
Suzuki has told us that its SUV will not be electric.
Although its arrival could be several years away, talk of the new Suzuki Jimny is already beginning, and we miss the small Japanese SUV very much. It is expected to be unveiled and arrive later this decade, hopefully sooner rather than later.
We already knew this date, but it came as a surprise when, at the international presentation of the e-Vitara, the Japanese carmaker backed away from its initial plans and told us that its SUV will not be electric.
'Toyota Jimny'
So, what is the brand's alternative? In principle, it will keep a combustion engine thanks to the use of biofuels. We'll see how this project turns out and, most importantly, if it will be viable for the UK market. We hope so!
In the meantime, Motor1.com wanted to show you digital recreations of the new Jimny. Would you like it with a Toyota FJ Cruiser front end or an INEOS Grenadier front end? You have the images attached in this article.
'INEOS Jimny'
Furthermore, we now also show you the small 4x4 with the aesthetic base of the Jeep Wrangler and its seven-slot grille, the work of MMW Designs. It doesn't lose the retro essence of the Jimny, but it certainly looks more powerful.
But realistically, we won't see these digital projects in reality, so what will the new Jimny look like? There's nothing official, but we're guessing Suzuki will only slightly evolve the model, as its vintage aesthetics remain very fresh and appealing over the years. Therefore, we expect only touches to refresh the vehicle.
We dare not comment on the mechanicals (will the 102 PS continue?), but we are convinced that the Jimny will continue intact with its 'off-road' qualities intact: chassis with crossbars and crossmembers, all-wheel drive connectable with reduction gearbox, two rigid axles or hill descent control.
Logically, the price of the car will go up even more, but as I said before, we don't mind as long as we can fill up with biofuels at a cost that is not crazy. If not, I'm afraid the Jimny will remain a very niche model.
