Mercedes V-Class Marco Polo Horizon (2025): Goodbye, combustion engine
The Marco Polo Horizon starts the transition to the electric camper future
With the Marco Polo Horizon, Mercedes-Benz is launching a new model for camping newcomers and weekend adventurers. Based on the tried-and-tested V-Class, the camper combines robust functionality with the comfort features typical of the brand. The result is a vehicle that is suitable for both spontaneous excursions and longer journeys without losing the character of a premium van.
Flexible use of space is at the centre of the Marco Polo Horizon. The folding rear bench can be converted into a double bed, while the electrically retractable roof offers additional sleeping space for two people. The living area has a deliberately functional design: A small kitchenette with sink, gas hob and fridge allows you to prepare simple meals while travelling. There is also a folding table that can transform the interior into a dining or work area.

The cockpit is equipped with new technologies, including two 12.3-inch screens and Mercedes-Benz Advanced Control (MBAC). This system allows important vehicle functions such as lighting, heating or power supply to be conveniently controlled via the display or smartphone app.
Various vehicle functions can be controlled remotely via the Mercedes me connect app, such as activating the auxiliary heating or checking the fresh water tank. The Marco Polo Horizon is equipped with various driver assistance systems, including DISTRONIC Active Cruise Control, Active Brake Assist and Lane Keeping Assist.
Like the V-Class, the Marco Polo Horizon is designed to impress with its pleasantly dynamic driving behaviour. The Airmatic air suspension, which compensates for bumps on roads or country lanes and increases ride comfort, also contributes to this. The current generation diesel drive offers solid performance and range, even if this configuration can be seen as a transitional solution.
Change and electrification from 2026
The Marco Polo Horizon is one of the last models with a combustion engine in the Mercedes-Benz motorhome programme. With the introduction of the new VAN.EA platform from 2026, the focus will be on purely electric drives. This step is part of the manufacturer's strategy to develop more sustainable mobility solutions and meet the increasing demand for zero-emission vehicles.
In addition, Mercedes has ended its partnership with Westfalia, the previous vehicle manufacturer of the motorhome models. Instead, the equipment will be developed entirely in-house in future.

Competition: What makes the Horizon special?
In a highly competitive segment, the Marco Polo Horizon has to compete with models such as the VW California, the Ford Transit Nugget and numerous smaller motorhome manufacturers. While the California scores points with its extensive range and particularly well thought-out utilisation of space, the Nugget focuses on an alternative room layout with the kitchen in the rear.
The Horizon, on the other hand, impresses with the quality of its materials and the integration of modern technology. The combination of a van suitable for everyday use and a motorhome makes it a versatile option, even if the starting price of €58,939.95 (approx. £50,000) is somewhat higher than that of its direct competitors.
The new V-Class Marco Polo Horizon is available to order now, with six equipment packages available for customisation - from the AMG Line to the Night package and the Premium Plus package, which includes seat upholstery in black leather, four-zone automatic climate control, Live Traffic Information and the Parking package with 360-degree camera.
