In what could be best described as an "instant classic", the 2014 Pagani Zonda LM Roadster ten years after its birth has been sold at auction for $11,086,250, the equivalent of £8.75 million.

This is an absolute record for a Pagani sold at auction, set just a few days ago at RM Sotheby's Dubai auction where the spectacular Zonda with Andorran plates topped all deals. The previous record belonged to a Zonda Aether that fetched €6.1 million (£5 million) in a 2019 auction.

Inspired by the cars of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with 760 PS

To understand the rarity and uniqueness of this very special Pagani Zonda, it must be remembered that it is a one-off and that its development required a good six months of road and track testing by Pagani designers who worked side by side with the customer.

Inspired by the endurance cars that race in the Le Mans 24 Hours, 60 special parts were specially made for the construction of the LM, ranging from the enlarged wheel arches to the advanced aerodynamics, up to the front headlights fairing flush with the bodywork and the large rear wing inspired by the Zonda R.

The starting point is a Zonda 760, i.e. the one equipped with the 7.3-litre V12 aspirated engine with 760 PS and 780 Nm of Mercedes-AMG origin. Equipped with a 7-speed Xtrac semi-automatic gearbox, rear-wheel drive and an all-carbon fibre body, the Pagani Zonda LM Roadster is capable of touching 217 mph and sprinting from 0 to 62 mph in 2.6 seconds.

How to restore a unique Pagani Zonda

Pagani still has moulds to remake special parts

What do you think?

The Roadster was created a decade ago to complement the Coupé with identical LM specifications in the garage of the same passionate Argentinean customer and has covered just 5,967 miles in ten years and can count on Pagani having the original moulds available to rebuild any parts that may have been damaged through use.

As a reminder, the most expensive Pagani of all is still the 2017 Zonda HP Barchetta, which was built in three examples at €20 million (£16.6 million) each, even more expensive than the Huayra Codalunga that cost €7 million (£5.8 million).
