Volkswagen is shaking things up in the UK Golf lineup with a trio of new additions that should grab the attention of even more customers. Already the UK’s hottest hatch in its class this year (in terms of sales), the Golf isn’t just coasting on its laurels – it’s hitting the turbo button. From 21 November, these fresh upgrades are open for orders at Volkswagen retailers nationwide.

The swanky Golf Black Edition is getting a pair of new engines. Whether you’re a petrol purist or a diesel devotee, there’s something to drool over:

- 1.5 eTSI Mild Hybrid petrol: A breezy 150 bhp powers this beauty, zipping from 0 to 62 mph in 8.4 seconds.
- 2.0 TDI diesel: For those who like their speed with a side of efficiency, this one’s got the same horsepower but a faster 0-62 mph sprint at eight seconds flat.

Both options come strapped to a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox, so your gear shifts are as smooth as the Black Edition’s illuminated door handles. Speaking of which, those handles, paired with 18-inch Leeds alloys and black styling elements, ensure you’ll look cooler than your carpool buddies. Prices? £33,690 for the eTSI and £35,500 for the TDI. Fancy, but fair.

Over on the practical-but-pampered end of the spectrum, the Golf Match eHybrid is making waves with its second-gen plug-in hybrid drive. A 19.7 kWh battery means you can glide around town in electric silence for over 88 miles – perfect for your daily commutes or smugly skipping petrol stations. And when you do need to put your foot down, the combined 204 bhp system takes you from 0 to 62 mph in a zippy 7.2 seconds.

What do you think?

Charging? It’s easy. Juice up at home with up to 11 kW AC or top off quickly at a public station with 40 kW DC. Plus, with a claimed 141.2 mpg fuel economy, your wallet might just write VW a thank-you note.

The Match eHybrid isn’t all brains – it’s got the looks and gadgets to match. Standard features include adaptive cruise control, a rear-view camera, and the ability to parallel park like a pro thanks to Park Assist Pro. All of this wrapped in a tidy package priced at £36,140.
