GWM Wey 03 SUV: Available as petrol and full hybrid from 2025

Only electric cars come from China? No way ...

Only electric cars come from China? Well, there now seems to be a slight trend reversal in exports among manufacturers there. Perhaps also in view of the EU's upcoming punitive tariffs on Chinese electric cars, more and more brands are adding combustion engines to their programmes.

One example is MG with the MG3, the new ZS and HS. GWM is also expanding its portfolio. From 2025, the Wey 03 will no longer be limited to the current plug-in hybrid. In 2025, the engine range for the large SUV will be expanded with new petrol and full hybrid drives. However, details are still being withheld, with no more than this thinly veiled information available so far.

In September 2024, Great Wall Motor sold 108,400 new vehicles worldwide, an increase of 15% compared to the previous year. Overseas sales reached a new high of 44,100 units in this period, accounting for 40% of all vehicles sold outside the Chinese home market - a new record.

From January to September 2024, cumulative sales outside the domestic market rose to 324,244 units, an increase of 53% compared to the same period last year. With this growth, Great Wall Motor has already surpassed its total overseas sales for 2023 after three quarters of 2024.

Recent developments in the European market have therefore prompted GWM to reorganise its regional positioning. For the future development of the European market, the Chinese group has now commissioned Great Wall Motor Netherlands Sales B.V. (GWM NL) to manage its business activities in Europe.

At the same time, the proven sales structure via national sales partners, such as the Emil Frey Group for the German market, will remain in place. According to GWM, this approach to strategic realignment emphasises "the manufacturer's continued commitment in Europe and its confidence in sustainable growth in this challenging market".

At the same time, the new spare parts warehouse in Amsterdam, close to major seaports and airports, was put into operation in the third quarter of 2024. This is intended to illustrate GWM's efforts to maximise customer satisfaction and further expand the strong service orientation of the dealer network. The new structure will ensure even better availability and faster distribution of spare parts in close cooperation with the partners' extensive service networks.
