How do these half-ton trucks stack up against each other on paper?

Pickup trucks account for five of the 20 best-selling vehicles in the U.S.in 2018. Of the five, four of them are half-ton trucks: the GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado, Ram 1500, and Ford F-150. The other truck on that list is the Toyota Tacoma. Clearly, American buyers can't get enough of these big, capable vehicles.

We have our own opinions as to which truck is best and which ones, well, fall short. But on paper, each of the six available half-ton trucks in the U.S. today offers something different. If you want towing capacity, get the F-150. If you want fuel economy, maybe go for the Silverado. Or if you want something on par with a luxury vehicle, get the GMC.

There are no shortage of affable truck options in the U.S. Take a look at how all seven of these half-ton trucks stack up.

American trucks conquer in the towing department. The Ford F-150 is the only truck to crack 13,000 pounds, while the Ram 1500, Silverado, and Sierra aren't far behind. At the bottom of the barrel, the ancient Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan come in at just 10,200 and 9,740 pounds.

Once again, American trucks make their presence known in the payload department. The F-150 is the only truck above 3,000 pounds, while the Ram edges out the Silverado and Sierra by less than a few hundred pounds. As for the Tundra and Titan, the two trucks swapped places: the Titan can carry 1,950 pounds, while the Tundra can carry just 1,730 pounds.
