Mazda unveiled two concept cars, the Vision X-Coupe and Vision X-Compact, at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, showcasing potential future styling and technology. The Vision X-Coupe, a four-door plug-in hybrid with a two-rotor rotary engine, can run on carbon-neutral fuel from microalgae, producing 503 horsepower and offering a range of nearly 500 miles. Mazda’s innovative approach includes extracting oil from microalgae, which captures CO2, and using the byproduct for food or fertilizer. Additionally, Mazda is developing “Mazda Mobile Carbon Capture” technology to extract CO2 directly from exhausts, debuting in a super endurance race with the Mazda 55.
The Vision X-Compact, resembling an athletic Mazda2, aims to enhance the driver-car relationship through human sensory digital models and empathic AI. It features a “Human Body Sensing Model” that responds to emotions, suggesting routes or alerting to blind spots. The design includes a simple interior with a three-spoke steering wheel and a phone mount, emphasizing a clean, minimalist approach without a large infotainment screen.
Both concepts highlight Mazda’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. The Vision X-Coupe’s design evolves the Kodo language with a silver finish and aggressive front, while the X-Compact’s compact hatchback form features a wide stance and vertical LEDs. Although currently just concepts, these designs may influence future Mazda models, potentially leading to their production.
