General Motors is rethinking Cadillac's UK relaunch, just months after promising the brand would return "soon" with the Lyriq electric SUV. That pledge came from GM Europe's former boss, but a launch date never followed, and reporting by Autocar now mirrors GM's cooler tone.
A GM spokesperson says the company is "actively reviewing" its Cadillac plans as the UK market and EV landscape shift fast, with new competitors crowding in. That review arrives while Cadillac also pivots back toward gas-powered sedans and SUVs instead of relying on EVs alone.

GM Reevaluates Cadillac's UK Relaunch
The sales base is tiny. Just 20 Cadillacs were registered in the UK between July 2025 and March 2026, and 16 were EVs. That is negligible next to established premium brands, even though the cars are already technically available.
GM has not committed to a wider launch, and its line that plans must "remain aligned with market conditions and customer demand" sounds like a warning that current volumes do not justify a full rollout. The brand's record EV sales momentum in the US has yet to carry over to Britain.
For factory right-hand-drive buyers, the official network is a single outlet: Charles Hurst in Dublin, which sells the Lyriq, the smaller Optiq, and the seven-seat Vistiq. That lone dealer is handling Cadillac's right-hand-drive presence for the UK and Ireland.
In London, GM-approved dealer Clive Sutton keeps importing left-hand-drive Escalades for customers willing to sit on the "wrong" side of the cabin. It keeps a trickle of Cadillacs on UK roads but underlines how limited GM's formal commitment remains.

From EV-Only Vision To New ICE Sedans
The UK pause fits a larger shift. GM CEO Mary Barra has confirmed that starting next spring and running into 2028 Cadillac will roll out a new wave of gas-powered models, including a redesigned CT5 sedan, a new XT5 crossover, and a revived XT6 three-row SUV. These internal-combustion entries will sit alongside Cadillac's electric lineup.
GM has already acknowledged regret over killing the CT6, and the CT4 will be discontinued after 2026 with no direct replacement, leaving the CT5 as Cadillac's only sedan. With fresh investment in future Cadillac products, the UK rethink looks less like a scrapped relaunch and more like GM working out which mix of EVs and gas cars, if any, makes sense for Britain.
