‘Literally Ruined My Vehicle’: Woman Gets $1,500 Car Bill At Take 5. Now She’s Issuing A PSA For Other ‘Young Naive Women’
“I said yes because I am stupid and I didn’t know."
Any car owner will deal with unexpected repairs that can be costly. In these situations, the expectation is that the vehicle will be in better shape leaving the shop then it did going in.
Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. A Texas woman recently had car maintenance done at Take 5 and says she seriously regrets it.
Emily Turner (@__strawberryqueen__) recently shared her experience that she says ended up costing her $1,500 in repairs.
“I just want to give a PSA to primarily young naive women because I am also a young naive woman. Take 5 literally ruined my vehicle,” she begins.
Turner describes the issue that came up after getting service done at Take 5 and says it turned out to be a costly one.
“I just spent over $1,500 to get the radiator replaced because I had something wrong with my coolant. I had a leak and I didn’t know that,” she says.
Turner claims things took a turn for the worse, alleging that the leak left her stranded on the side of the road over four hours away from home. Luckily for Turner, two fellow drivers stopped to help. That’s when she said the two men discovered that there was no coolant in her vehicle.
“They take a look and I literally have zero coolant in my car,” she says.
Turner then says that two weeks prior she got maintenance at Take 5.
“They assured me that since my car was over 150,000 miles, that I needed to get my coolant flushed. So I said yes,” she says.
Turner claims that this decision ultimately cost her $1,500.
“I said yes because I am stupid and I didn’t know… $1,500 later I realized my mistake. This is a PSA to literally never ever, ever go to Take 5 because they are idiots,” she says.
“They are just hiring random people who need a job,” she adds.
Now she’s warning others to avoid the chain at all costs.
“Do not go to Take 5. Go to a mom and pop place. They are going to do something to your car that is going to ruin it… quit supporting Take 5,” she concludes.
Do You Need To Change Your Coolant?
Antifreeze over time will lose its effectiveness or become contaminated. When this happens, the engine can overheat, leading to leaks or other issues. By flushing out old coolant, you may prevent leaks, rejuvenate seals, and ensure the engine continues to run properly.
Some signs that indicate the coolant needs to be changed is engine overheating, milky fluid color, or a strong sweet smell coming from the engine.
Turner believes that Take 5 took advantage of her being a woman. It’s not clear if she thinks the techs caused the leak.
According to AutoZone, you should replace your coolant between 60,000 and 100,000 miles, depending on the vehicle. For older models, it’s best to go every two to three years or every 60,000 miles. Coolant can last up to five years and up to 100,000 miles.
The right time to flush coolant is also affected by driving habits, type of coolant, climate and environment, and overall state of the cooling system.
To know what your vehicle's interval cycle is, consult the owner's manual.
How Do Viewers Feel About Take 5?
People in the comments claimed they had similar horror stories unfold after getting work done at Take 5.
“Take 5 is the reason my engine blew,” one claimed.
“They tore up my oil pan lol,” another alleged.
“Went there the other day and Take 5 didn’t put my coolant cap back on,” a third said.
Others suggested it’s not Take 5 specifically; it’s all service centers.
“Bro it’s so bad in today’s age,” one said.
“Learning to change my own oil is one of the most helpful things,” said another.
Motor1 has contacted Turner via email and TikTok direct messages. We have contacted Take 5 via email. This post will be updated if either responds.
