Man Sees Mobil 1 Oil At AutoZone Is $44. Then He Sees It’s $26 At Walmart. Then He Revisits AutoZone: 'O'Reilly Will Price Match’
'Pricing is about to be through the roof.'
A man goes into AutoZone to grab a five-quart bottle of Mobil 1 oil and is stunned to see the price tag. So, he runs over to Walmart and finds that the same bottle is about $18 cheaper. What gives?
TikTok creator Mr. Love (@mr93love) posted a video with his discovery. “Man, AutoZone be trippin' out some [expletive] times,” he says to start the video. “I went to look for some oil for my Jeep. That joint was forty-something dollars. Took my [expletive] straight to Walmart.”
He is clearly standing in the motor oil aisle at Walmart. When he flips the camera, viewers can see the five-quart bottle of Mobil 1 extended performance, high-mileage OW-20 oil is $26.97.
The price is apparently right for Mr. Love, who says, “That’s what I’m talking about.”
Mr. Love doesn’t expect viewers to just take his word for it. After purchasing his oil from Walmart, he decides to go back to AutoZone and document the price difference. Sure enough, the display shows the price for the same bottle is $44.99.
The Price Of Mobil 1 Oil at AutoZone VS. Walmart
The regular price of a five-quart bottle of Mobil 1 extended performance, high-mileage 0W-20 motor oil at Walmart is $29.97, but it is currently on sale for $26.97. As Mr. Love showed in his video, the regular price of the same bottle at AutoZone is $44.99.
Mr. Love isn’t the first person to notice the discrepancy. A shopper posted a thread to Reddit’s r/cartalk five years ago to ask if there was a difference in quality to attribute to the difference. Commenters agreed that there is not.
“Same bottle, same label, same inside,” wrote one person. “Hard to beat Walmart on pricing for most things.”
Another person wrote, “If you know how often you change oil, keep Googling for weeks beforehand. With rebates and promos, you can find awesome deals on oil. I buy it by the five-gallon bucket that can be $125 full price, but wait for promotions that put it at $50.”
Viewers React To The Man’s Mobil 1 Shopping Discovery
In the comments section of the video, viewers reacted to Mr. Love’s discovery about the price difference for oil at Walmart vs. AutoZone.
“Cuz got an evil laugh,” joked one viewer.
“I hope everyone is ready for the massive oil shortage [coming],” a second viewer said. “Pricing is about to be through the roof.”
A third person reacted to several commenters saying Love should have waited to take advantage of one of AutoZone’s oil and filter promotional deals. “They do have the filter, but sometimes [the price] works out the same,” the person wrote.
Another person said the trip is worth it. “I actually like roaming in Walmart,” they wrote.
Motor1 contacted Mr. Love via TikTok comment and direct message for comment. We also contacted AutoZone and Exxon Mobil via email and Walmart via contact form for comment. We will update this story if any party responds.
