‘Something Feels Wrong’: Dealership Changes Oil In Woman’s Ford. Then A Wheel Falls Off On Her Way Home. That’s Just The Beginning
"I never felt so disrespected and lied to."
A Ford Bronco owner says she noticed something wasn't quite right with her vehicle after getting an oil change and tire rotation.
Bronco owner Destynee Galloway’s (@destyneelace) intuition was right because moments after picking up her vehicle from the Lake Keowee Ford service center, she says her wheel fell off. A TikTok documenting her experience has generated 26,800 views as of this writing.
In the post, Galloway describes what happened after she took her Bronco in for a routine oil change and tire rotation.
“I’m leaving the dealership making a right and I have a feeling my car is unstable,” she begins.
She nevertheless continued driving. Galloway says that when she approached a yellow light, she decided to stop.
“In my heart I need to stop and not go because something feels wrong with my car. Thank god I did,” she says.
Galloway claims that after making the left turn, her front right wheel completely fell off of her Bronco. Her post includes a photo of the Bronco with the front passenger wheel off.
“Whoever did my servicing at the Ford dealership did not tie in the lugnuts of my front right wheel. Then Ford came out and towed my car back in. Got my wheel back on well enough where it would stay to get it back to the dealership,” she says.
She says her problems were far from over. The towing people reportedly instructed Galloway to insist the dealership replace the right front rim because the impact warped it. She claims the dealership said this was not necessary. She disagreed.
“Absolutely not because I did not bring the wheel into the dealership with the back looking like this. The mechanic that got my car told me to not accept the car back without them getting a front right rim because the bolt lugs are warped and it is unsafe,” she says.
After this conversation, she says the dealership agreed to change the rim. However, Galloway claims they kept it for six weeks; during this time, she says she called every other day and got voicemail every time.
“I know they have my name on file and they were completely dodging me,” she says.
After no contact for weeks, Galloway says her father called the dealership. He managed to get through, she reports, and was told they’d ordered the wrong rim color initially and had to send it back and order the right one. Eventually, she says it got the right rim, but not before rushing her to return the loaner they’d given her because someone wanted to buy it.
“That is not my problem. Suddenly you know how to call me? Three times back-to-back-to-back but you didn’t know how to use a phone for four weeks. That is crazy,” she vents.
Galloway says she refused to rush to the dealership to hand over the loaner, so they sent an employee in her Bronco to make the swap.
“The best part is, they brought my car to me on empty. Literally on empty,” she claims.
Now she says she wants to get rid of the Bronco.
“I will never be purchasing from upstate Lake Keowee Ford ever again because I never felt so disrespected and lied to in my life. It really could’ve been bad if my wheel had fallen off going 80 mph down the interstate.. Horrible experience, do not recommend,” she says.
What Causes A Tire To Fall Off?
When a tire falls off your car, typically it’s because the lug nuts weren’t properly installed. They either break off entirely or gradually loosen and pop off.
Having a wheel fall off is extremely dangerous. The wheel itself can become a road hazard or cause damage to other vehicles, property, and/or people. It can also cause the vehicle it came off of to crash or even flip.
Broken axles and hub cap separations can also cause a tire to fly off.
Dealership Customer Service Is Key
Viewers agreed that Galloway had every right to be angry at the dealership.
“Beyond unprofessional on their part,” one person commented.
“I would’ve been livvvvvviddd,” another agreed.
“Bringing it back on empty is like a cherry on top,” a third shared.
One person blamed the brand, writing, “That’s why Ford is called Ford! As in Ford: Frequently Over Repaired Daily!!”
“I’ve never had any issues with my physical car other than the wheel falling off (preventable),” Destynee replied.
“Y’all are not hearing her. There’s nothing wrong with the car, the dealership's shady,” one added.
One viewer claimed they bought multiple cars from the same dealership and had similar treatment.
“Our family has purchased 4 vehicles from Lake Keowee Ford and Jeep dealership in the last 6 years…and this is the treatment we receive…I can assure you, WE WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM AGAIN,” one shared.
Motor1 has contacted Galloway via email and TikTok direct message. We have also contacted Lake Keowee Ford via phone and an online inquiry form. This post will be updated if either responds.
