'Don't Do This': Dodge Driver Issues Scat Pack Warning. Here's What He Says To Never Do While Driving

A Dodge Charger owner reveals the three things you should never do in one equipped with a Scat Pack.
TikTok user Marc (@Srt.Marc) posted a video with his advice on July 8. “Here are three things not to do in a Scat Pack Charger,” he says to start the video.
Flooring it in Eco Mode
The first rule for maintaining a Charger equipped with a V8 engine, in Marc’s opinion, is accelerating quickly when your car is in Eco Mode. That’s the mode that temporarily lowers the amount of power the engine is using in order to increase fuel efficiency.
“If you’re driving in Eco Mode, do not floor your car,” says Marc. “You’re just messing up your engine, and you’re messing up your transmission, bro. It switches from eight cylinders to four cylinders. So you pressing on the gas while you’re in Eco Mode? You’re just destroying your engine.”
Experts agree that modern Eco Mode systems will make it harder to push on the accelerator, which can make your car struggle. However, that doesn’t mean it’s doing damage to your car’s engine or transmission.
Buying Cheap Tires
The second piece of advice Marc offers is to avoid cheap tires. “I’m coming from experience,” Marc says. “Every time I get cheap tires, they only last me about three to four months.”
That’s why Marc thinks it’s better to invest in a sturdier set. ”Please stop buying cheap tires,” he says. “You’re just wasting your money. It’s literally a waste of time. I would only recommend buying cheap tires if you’re going to burn ‘em out that same exact day.”
Using 87 Octane Gas
And, finally, Marc asks his viewers to avoid regular 87 octane gas, which is the lowest octane fuel on the market. Instead, Marc suggests his viewers only use Premium gas, which is generally 91-94 octane. Dodge technicians generally recommend using 91 octane gas in the R/T Scat Pack, SRT, and Hellcat models.
“Please stop doing this,” he says. “You are literally killing your car. Do not put 87 octane in a Scat Pack Charger or any V8. This car specifically requires premium octane, not 87.”

In the comments section, viewers reacted to Marc’s advice, in particular his first rule concerning Eco Mode.
“This is what you get when people post about things they don’t understand,” wrote one person. “The 5.7-6.4 Hemi only deactivates cylinders when cruising. If you step on the throttle, it goes back to eight cylinders. Going to 100% throttle in Eco will not damage the engine or transmission.”
A second person said, “I drive Eco every day and floor my car. Had it two years.”
A third user said, “If you’re in Eco Mode and get down on it, the computer tells it to switch back.”
