'He Was Smiling Through the Pain:' Woman Gets Mazda Loaner. Then She Tells Husband She Bought It to See His Reaction
'You're lying.'
A woman has gone viral after pranking her husband with a loaner from Mazda. She wants to see his reaction when she tells him she bought a whole new car without consulting him first.
TikTok user Jana Smith (@janaaasmith) posted her prank video this week. At the start of the video, Smith is inside what is clearly a new vehicle. She explains, “I went to get my car serviced at Mazda and they found an issue, so I'm leaving my car overnight. They gave me a loaner car; a 2025. So let's go home and tell my husband that I bought a new car without him knowing.”
The New Mazda
The video then cuts to the Mazda loaner inside the Smiths’ garage. Her husband is eying the new vehicle with a confused look. “I don't understand what's happening,” he says cautiously.
Feigning innocence, Smith says, “So it costs nothing except the car payment is just $280 more a month. But it's a 2025.”
It takes just another second for Smith’s husband to get in on the joke. “You're lying. You're such a liar,” he says to conclude the video.
In the caption, she writes, "We're in the middle of making the biggest business acquisition of our lives, and I came home to tell them I bought a new car."
Of course, anyone who’s been closing on a real estate or business deal knows that it’s an incredibly stressful time and not really a time to be throwing around cash or making impulsive purchases—particularly of the automotive variety. That’s because those kinds of activities can change your debt-to-income ratio and credit score, and those factor in considerably to the financial products you’re able to access.
‘He’s Such a Green Flag’
In the comments, plenty of wives said they found this prank incredibly funny.
"Him doing his best not to crash out is cracking me up," wrote one user.
"The finger tap on the door handle was hilarious," agreed a second user. "Girl, he was so mad."
"Calculating the budget in his head," wrote a third.
"My husband said if I come home with a new car again, I'm sleeping in it," wrote another wife. "I've probably had like eight cars in the last 15 years."
One woman admitted she wouldn't have been as generous to her partner in this situation. "He's such a green flag, because I would have flipped out!!!!"
It’s unclear what type of car she came home with, though it resembles the Mazda CX-50. Motor1 reached out to Smith via TikTok comment and direct message for comment.
