The Batmobile from The Dark Knight is for sale at £2.3 million
Ten examples will be produced with a General Motors V8. A faithful replica of the car in the film, but cannot be driven on the road.
Are you a Batman fan looking for an early Christmas present? Here's what you need. If you've got $3 million to spend (around £2.3 million), you can treat yourself to one of ten 1:1 scale Batmobiles in Tumbler version.
Yes, the car that appears in the films directed by Christopher Nolan, perfectly functional and meticulously detailed. The only drawback is that it can't be road-legal.
A 532 PS toy
This very limited production run is the result of an agreement between Warner Bros. and Action Vehicle Engineering, which brought to life the Batmobile that appeared in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The 4.64 m long, 2.82 m wide body, individual details, interior and tyres are a faithful reproduction of the original model, while a real engine is under the bonnet.
The Batmobile from 'The Dark Knight Rises' becomes reality
No, there are no jet turbines emitting flames. The car is powered by a General Motors-sourced 6.2 V8 with 540 PS and 659 Nm, the same engine found in the Chevrolet Corvette C6 and the fifth-generation Camaro SS (albeit with different power ratings). The power transmitted to the ground via a four-speed automatic gearbox may seem significant, but it should be kept in mind that the mass to be moved is considerable, at over 2.5 tonnes.
That said, the Batmobile has a tubular steel chassis derived from aeronautics and a number of Kevlar, carbon fibre and fibreglass components. Photos of the interior have not been revealed, but the manufacturers are talking about two screens for the dashboard and infotainment system, as well as alcantara upholstery. Air conditioning is also included.
How to get it
Bank account permitting, to become one of the ten lucky people in the world to own this Batmobile, all you have to do is register on the official auction website and enter your personal details. You will then be contacted by the organisation, which will check your "financial references". Ten lucky bidders will then be selected at random on the website.
According to the limited information available, delivery of the Batmobile is estimated to take 15 months, with the buyer receiving it directly at home, with a unique serial number on the bodywork.
