Our spy photographers have sent us a second batch of images with the Volkswagen Golf R420 testing near the Nürburgring.
Volkswagen is getting ready to make the Golf R an even more powerful hatchback by introducing a production version of the R400 concept which is expected to have 420 PS sent to a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. The identity of the engine is not known at this moment, as some are saying it's the 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter while those who have heard the prototype stretching out say it's actually the 5-cylinder, 2.5-liter from the Audi RS3 Sportback.
Aside from getting a more powerful engine, the Golf R420 (name not confirmed) will also boast some unique alloy wheels, a quad exhaust setup and a sportier suspension. There's also going to be a roof-mounted wing and a slightly more aggressive body to match the added oomph.
Chances are Volkswagen will stage the world debut of the Golf R420 in March 2016 at the Geneva Motor Show, with sales to commence shortly thereafter at an estimated price of less than €50,000. We will have to wait and see whether this will be a regular production model or a limited-run special edition.
