Special edition RX-8 features distinct styling cues, a sport suspension and a refined interior. The RX-8 Spirit R will be limited to 1,000 units.
Mazda has announced the RX-8 Spirit R special edition for the Japanese domestic market (JDM).
The JDM RX-8 Spirit R is based on the RX-8 Type RS (with a six-speed manual transmission) and Type E (with a six-speed automatic gearbox). Distinguishing the model will be features such as the exclusive seat design as well as the bronze alloy wheels.
Special equipment includes the sport suspension and larger brakes (with red calipers), new front headlights and fog lights with black bezel rear combination lights, an exclusive SPIRIT R badge, a piano-black transmission tunnel trim, and leather Recaro sports seats with red stitching.
The final special edition Spirit R RX-8 will be limited to a production run of just 1,000 units as production ends in June 2012. However, Mazda promises the end of the RX-8 doesn't mean the end of rotary engine development. Takashi Yamanouchi, Mazda's Representative Director, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO, said, "Although RX-8 production is ending, the rotary engine will always represent the spirit of Mazda and Mazda remains committed to its ongoing development."
