The current 11th-generation Honda Accord isn't even that old. It launched for the 2023 model year with an all-new, somewhat drab design and two efficient powertrains, including a hybrid. Yet, a refresh is already planned—and it could look like a completely new model when it arrives.

A June report alleged that Honda was preparing to “substantially redesign” the popular sedan as soon as next year. Insiders told Automotive News the car would have a “modern and futuristic design,” allegedly inspired by Honda’s wedge-shaped 0 Series concepts.

Honda might have teased the sedan, or a crossover-like version of the model, earlier this year with an unnamed prototype that looks like a modern interpretation of the short-lived Accord Crosstour. It’s substantially different from the current car.

The Japanese automaker hasn’t confirmed anything about the new Accord yet, but rumors and leaks suggest the new Honda will not suffer from the current model's plainness. Here’s everything we know about the next Accord.

What Will Honda Call It?

The Accord has been in Honda’s lineup for 50 years, and we don’t expect it to disappear anytime soon.

The automaker launched the model as a three-door hatchback in June 1976, followed by the sedan in 1979. Since then, Honda has sold over 15 million in the United States across 11 generations.

Rumors say the new Accord will receive substantial restyling with a “modern and futuristic design” allegedly inspired by Honda’s 0 Series concepts. Our renderings rely heavily on the hybrid prototype Honda announced in May.

Our Accord features slimmer headlights, a completely revamped front end, and a liftback design meant to set it apart from the sedan. At the rear, a full-width light bar sits underneath a stylized Honda wordmark.

Inside, the updated Accord will supposedly have a large infotainment screen on the dashboard with a driver-focused cabin like the current car. That should mean the new Honda will have physical HVAC and audio controls.

Rumors also suggest Honda will launch a high-riding hatchback version of the mid-size sedan, which would explain the prototype’s unique body style.

What Platform Will It Ride On?

The new Accord will ride on the current platform. The next-generation Accord, which might become hybrid-only, will not arrive until the early 2030s, and it should have a revamped or all-new architecture.

The current Accord uses Honda’s HA modular platform, shared with other current models like the CR-V.

What Engines Will Power It?

Honda will begin rolling out its new hybrid system in 2027, an evolution of the company’s two-motor setup. The new hybrid system will likely power the new Accord because it can pair directly with Honda’s existing 1.5- and 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines, which currently power the sedan.

The current model comes standard with a 192-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, while a 204-hp 2.0-liter two-motor hybrid is optional.

The automaker is also developing new four-cylinder engines that will replace the current units. The updated engines are expected to debut in the high-riding version of the Accord. Honda’s updated powertrain components are focused on improving efficiency.

When Will It Debut?

If the rumors are true, the updated Honda Accord sedan will arrive in the second half of 2027 for the 2028 model year. That means we could see a proper debut as soon as early next year, especially if the underpinnings and powertrains remain the same.

If Honda is actually developing a liftback variant, production will supposedly start in mid-2029. But Honda could reveal the high-riding variant alongside the sedan.

How Much Will It Cost?

The new Honda Accord should start at around $30,000. The entry-level, pure combustion-powered 2026 Accord LX starts at $29,690 (includes $1,295 destination charge). The cheapest Honda Accord Hybrid is the Sport, starting at $35,090.

What do you think?

Compared to its competitors, the Accord is on the more expensive side. The 2027 Kia K5, with a 186-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder, starts at $28,935 2027 Kia K5. The 2027 Hyundai Sonata is a tad cheaper at $28,895, with a 191-hp four-cylinder.

The Toyota Camry, which is only available with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine, starts at $30,995.
