The Ford GT40 is a legendary American race car known for its triumph over Ferrari at Le Mans in the 1960s. This victory inspired numerous imitators over the years, all aiming to replicate the car’s distinctive design and performance. The latest homage to this iconic vehicle comes from Cape Advanced Vehicles (CAV) in South Africa, which has introduced a new restomod that appears to be based on an Audi R8 chassis.
The CAV GT MkII boasts a powerful twin-supercharged 4.2-liter V8 engine paired with all-wheel drive. This engine is equipped with advanced features such as forged internals, direct injection, dry-sump lubrication, a carbon-fiber intake manifold, and an Inconel exhaust. These components contribute to the engine’s impressive output of 800 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, providing exceptional performance.
Drivers of the CAV GT MkII can choose from three transmission options: a six-speed single-clutch semi-automatic, a dual-clutch, or a manual. The car is designed to achieve a top speed exceeding 205 miles per hour and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.0 seconds. With a weight of 2,976 pounds, the vehicle features a carbon-fiber composite body and an aluminum and carbon-fiber spaceframe, ensuring both agility and durability.
