"Way more reliable than a Range Rover."

A Jaecoo driver showed off one of the car’s features that she seems to appreciate: A chilled compartment cooler. Bec’s (@bec.tttiktok) social media persona is currently intertwined with her ownership of the vehicle, as she dubs herself “Queen of the Temu Range Rover.”

This same pejorative extends to the verbiage she uses in a recently posted TikTok clip, which shows the compartment cooler in action. In the video, she records herself seated in the vehicle with someone else beside her. Two McDonald’s fountain beverages rest in the cupholders before her.

Beneath these drinks is a bin that houses two McFlurries from the popular fast food chain. She reveals the treats after tapping a button in the middle of the console. The top of the console pops open, showcasing the ice cream inside. Following this, she pans the camera up to reveal the smiling face of her co-passenger, who grins after she shows off the Jaecoo’s functionality.

The influx of Chinese auto manufacturing has seen substantial market shifts in recent years. This Substack report indicates that in 2023, China supplanted Japan as the globe’s leading exporter of cars. Russia, Mexico, Australia, the Middle East, and now Europe are importing models from various automakers that hail from the Middle Kingdom. Jaecoo is one such manufacturer that has taken its wares worldwide, including the UK.

Motor1 has covered the Chery brand’s British debut, like the Jaecoo J7, which touts “Super Hybrid” technology. The battery-assisted drivetrain promised around 60 miles per gallon of driving, along with the plug-in functionality, allowing for pure electric driving (for 56 miles) in addition to its gas-saving exploits. Early tests of the vehicle sought to prove its efficiency by demonstrating it could travel 807 miles without needing to refuel.

After the Jaecoo arrived, reviews of the vehicle were mixed. This assessment of the vehicle ranked the car 2.5/5 stars, highlighting that the car’s biggest asset was that it was “big on value.” Furthermore, the same outlet praised the Jaecoo J7’s roomy cabin, along with a “smooth and quiet” PHEV drivetrain.

Still, the same review echoed many of the same bad marks others have associated with the J7. Overall, the driver who tested the vehicle called its ride “wooden and restless,” adding that its claims pertaining to range and fuel efficiency weren’t as impressive as advertised. Additionally, the website wrote the J7’s infotainment system was “conspicuously poor.”

Commenters Sound Off

The ignominy of driving a Jaecoo seemed too much to bear for some folks who replied to Bec’s TikTok clip. One person replied, “Cool feature! But I’m still not telling people I drive a Jaecoo,” they said.

Someone else speculated as to the Jaecoo’s long-term quality, writing that they don’t believe vehicles from the manufacturer are designed for longevity. “In 5 years that thing will be in a scrapyard or sold for parts,” they wrote.

However, there were others who said that compared to Range Rovers, which aren’t really renowned for their reliability, Jaecoos are more stalwart options. “There's nothing like Temu Range Rover. It's a Jaecoo J7 and that's it! This car will outlive a Range Rover any day,” they penned.

Another stated, “Jaecoo are better than Range Rover.”

At least one viewer seemed happy to have watched Bec’s clip, as she wasn’t aware that the middle compartment in the car held cooling capabilities. “Wait…ITS CHILLED?!! I just got this car,” they wrote.

Someone else replied that they also own one and are happy with their purchase. “Omg I call my Jaecoo a temu Range Rover too! I adore it!” they said.

What do you think?

In a follow-up video, Bec replied to the Jaecoo ire in her feed with more footage of her ride. She wrote in a text overlay of the TikTok: “the car no one wants to admit they like more than the Range Rover.”
