MG's 4x4 is here and has a low price tag
It's called Majestor, it has a full frame chassis, and it could be driven by a diesel engine
It was only a matter of time before MG came up with a 4x4 with country character... and a cheap price tag. Look out for the MG Majestor, a seven-seat four-wheel drive that has just been launched in India. It's built on a full frame chassis with beams and cross-members, just like a real off-roader.
In fact, it is the MG-branded Maxus D90, as both companies are part of SAIC Motor. It is therefore a vehicle that has not been built from scratch, which makes its production costs particularly low.
It is by far the largest MG in the range, with a length of 5.05 metres, placing it in the E-segment alongside the Audi Q7, BMW X5 or the new Mazda CX-80, to name a few. However, it differs from all of them in its straight lines and very distinct country style.

The powerful front end features underbody protection and split LED headlights, while the side of the car incorporates side skirts for easy entry and exit. At the rear, there's the familiar light strip that connects the two lights. There is also a large bumper and twin tailpipes.
The interior is likely to be similar to that of the Maxus D90, so expect a 12.3-inch central screen for the multimedia system and premium features such as heated, ventilated seats with massage, a 12-speaker sound system and three-zone climate control.
What engine will power the MG Majestor? Logic dictates a diesel engine with a 2.0-litre displacement, 218 PS and 480 Nm of maximum torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The MG Majestor will be available in India in the coming months of 2025, with a starting price of around £38,000, making it a highly exclusive car in the Asian country.
However, this price, extrapolated to the European continent, sounds like a joke for a 5-metre-long, seven-seater car. Mazda, for example, sells the CX-80 from £49,670, while German premium competitors cost almost twice as much or even more.
