In 2024, eBay UK proved it’s not just a place for bargain hunters but also a playground for automotive enthusiasts with deep pockets. Topping the charts as the most expensive item sold in the car parts category in Britain was a 5.2-litre 2012 Audi R8 V10 engine, which went for a jaw-dropping £16,567. If you thought luxury seats would be a bit cheaper, think again – a pair of rare carbon bucket seats for a Porsche 911 (991 model) snagged second place, while another set of carbon bucket seats for a Porsche Cayman GT4 claimed third.

Engines dominated the upper echelons of eBay's automotive sales. Alongside the Audi R8's V10 powerhouse, the top 10 included a 3.0-litre engine from a 2019 Porsche Macan, a V8 from a Mercedes-Benz E63, a V12 for an Aston Martin DB9, and yet another Audi V8 engine.

But engines and seats weren’t the only things revving up prices. A Ford Escort Mk2 rally bodyshell – complete with doors, bonnet, and bootlid – sold for £9,146. A McLaren MP4-12C carbon fibre front diffuser also sped its way onto the list, fetching a cool £9,051.

While car enthusiasts were snapping up high-end vehicle components, eBay also delivered on the unexpected. A Rolls Royce engine designed for a Harrier Jump Jet – yes, the military aircraft – was among the more unconventional items sold. Its price? £10,189. Apparently, you don’t need wings to dream big.

Just outside the top 10, there were more luxury items that turned heads. A set of Lamborghini Urus alloy wheels, fitted with Pirelli tyres, sold for almost £8,000, while a rear subframe for a Ferrari 488 Spider went for £7,678.
