Dacia Bigster hits UK market, costs less than base VW Golf
You can now place an order for the C-segment SUV from Romania.
Move over, expensive mid-size SUVs – there’s a new kid on the block, and it’s got your wallet's back. Dacia has announced that its much-hyped Bigster SUV is rolling into town with a starting price of just £24,995. Yes, you read that right – under £25k for a family-friendly SUV in 2025. That’s still possible.
For those eager to be first on the Bigster bandwagon, pre-orders are live on Dacia’s website for a refundable £250 deposit. The Romanian model comes in three trims: Expression, Journey, and Extreme.
The base Expression trim gets serious cred with keyless entry, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and even dual-zone air conditioning. Not too shabby for the price of a well-equipped used hatchback or a brand-new base Volkswagen Golf.
The mid-tier Journey (starting from £26,245) adds a touch of luxury with 19-inch alloy wheels, snazzy seats, and a powered tailgate. For a few hundred quid more, the Extreme trim (from £26,494) brings rugged flair with extras like a panoramic sunroof and washable upholstery. All versions come with a suite of safety features, including lane-keep assist, emergency braking, and even a system to nag you if you’re nodding off at the wheel. Full pricing is available below.

Under the bonnet, the Bigster flexes some eco-conscious muscles. There’s a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system across the range. For those looking for more power, there’s also a hybrid powertrain that promises a mix of performance and efficiency. And if you’re planning to brave the wilderness (or a muddy school run), the TCe 130 4x4 is your rugged companion.
