2025 will be the breakthrough year for battery-powered aviation. Sweden's Heart Aerospace is preparing to take off its Heart Experimental 1 (Heart X1) demonstration aircraft from Plattsburgh International Airport in upstate New York (USA).

The first experimental flight of the Heart X1, destined to become the largest all-electric aircraft ever flown, is also a key step in the development of the 30-seat hybrid-electric regional passenger aircraft called ES-30, which promises an all-electric, zero-emission range of 120 miles and an extended hybrid range of 250 miles.

Why Plattsburgh

Plattsburgh International Airport was chosen because it is located in the Champlain Valley, an emerging hub for next-generation transport.

It is an ideal environment for experimental flight because it has a large airport infrastructure, low air traffic density and supports many transport technology initiatives.

What do you think?

"We are excited to join Plattsburgh's thriving aerospace community as we push the boundaries of air travel towards a cleaner, more sustainable future," said Heart Aerospace co-founder and CEO Anders Forslund.

"Commercial electric aircraft have the potential to lower operating costs for US airlines, creating a powerful opportunity to re-establish regional air routes that stimulate local economies, boost tourism and improve access to urban hubs. We have been impressed by the leadership demonstrated by the North Country region of New York in supporting next-generation aircraft."

"Heart Aerospace's decision to conduct its experimental all-electric flight from Plattsburgh International Airport reflects Clinton County's strong commitment to promoting next-generation transportation technologies," said Mark Henry, chairman of the Clinton County Legislature.
