Lotus keeps British cycling on track with its new Olympic bike
The fork uses the same high-grade carbon fibre and manufacturing process as the Lotus Evija hypercar.
Introducing the second-generation Hope-Lotus track bike, an innovation meticulously designed to elevate performance at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. A collaborative effort between Lotus Engineering, the Great Britain Cycling Team (GBCT), Hope Technology, and Renishaw, this bike evolves from the Tokyo 2020 model that brought home seven Olympic medals. The competitive race bike has been reimagined by Lotus and GBCT for enhanced aerodynamic efficiency.
Richard Hill, Chief Aerodynamicist at Lotus, instrumental in the design of the Olympic track bikes since the '90s, played a pivotal role in the development of this bike. Lotus leveraged its 75 years of experience in vehicle dynamics and aerodynamics, advanced materials, lightweight and engineering innovation to enhance the bike’s cockpit and front-end feel. The patented wide-element fork design inspired by fighter jets significantly reduces drag and enhances airflow around the rider. The composite fork, constructed from the same high-grade carbon fibre as the Lotus Evija hypercar, ensures lightness and optimum aerodynamics.
Thanks to over 150 hours of wind tunnel testing and advanced fluid dynamics simulation, this bike promises significant aerodynamic gains. The Hope-Lotus legacy, having created innovations like the Lotus sports bikes and the iconic Lotus type 108, continues to set the bar high for the cycling world.
