2016 Nissan Titan XD | Why Buy?
Find out if Nissan's play for the middle of the truck market makes daily-drivable sense.
– Detroit, Michigan
Nissan is looking for the wide-open spaces in the massive U.S. truck market; pitching its new Titan XD as a happy medium between standard- and heavy-duty haulers. The company has earned a lot of early praise for the diesel version of the XD, and the followup with a gasoline-fed V8 should take dead aim at the realistic needs of many American truck owners.
Whether or not this new, large-format Titan is good enough to pull owners out of their Fords, Chevys, and Rams, is more of an open question. With such a conservative customer base – often driven by habit and legacy – conquesting sales means getting everything right. And though Nissan is aiming for a kind of Goldilocks Zone between existing half ton and heavy duty offerings, the company may find that a hard target to hit, when existing offerings are so good to begin with.
You can start to make up your own mind about Nissan’s beefy new truck offering, thanks to our latest Why Buy? installment. Get the low-down on the XD in the video above, and look for new videos in this series, every Thursday.
