Chevrolet is going to great lengths to reduce the weight of its new vehicles, and the 2018 Equinox is the latest model to emerge from the crash-diet regimen. Shorter in length and height, the new Equinox is as much as 400 pounds lighter than before. That allowed Chevrolet to ditch the dated 2.4-liter base engine and 3.6-liter V6 in favor of thrifty new turbo mills.

Cargo space has suffered as a result of downsizing, and we’re still split on whether or not we like the sharper new sheetmetal on this Equinox. But improved fuel economy, a more stylish interior, and new equipment help the Chevy present a strong argument in an increasingly competitive class of crossovers.

The Equinox is currently Chevrolet’s second best-selling model, after the Silverado pickup truck, and one of America’s most popular crossovers. Watch our latest Why Buy? to see whether the all-new Equinox has what it takes to stay out front of the crowd.
